RUMOR: Nintendo Unveiling New Hardware at E3?
We are approaching the time ahead of E3 where rumors run rampant, and today, a doozy of a report has surfaced: Nintendo is allegedly planning to show new hardware at this year’s show.
The chatter originally on a Nintendo themed podcast with IGN staffer Jose Otero. Otero noted in the Podcast he has heard talk.
“We’ve heard rumors that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3,” Otero said, to which the Podcast co-founder agreed.
“They’re absolutely going to show new hardware this year,” said Peer Schneider. “No doubt in my mind that something… ‘Cause I’ve heard from multiple people now. I’ve heard from someone who used to be at Nintendo; I’ve heard it from somebody on the third-party front.”
Just because it’s believed new hardware is coming from Nintendo does not necessarily mean it would be entirely new hardware. The item could be a slight or major revision to existing hardware, such as the 3DS or Wii U. The 3DS, of course, has received a recent revision in the form of the 2DS. The Wii U, on the other hand, could receive a slimmer, cheaper option or another kind of revision. Certainly any kind of completely new hardware, be it home or handheld, could immediately grind to a halt any current momentum and potentially damaging sales potentials for future games significantly, including and the Sonic Boom and the new Super Smash Bros.
The good news is that these reports creep up all the time ahead of E3, and more often than not, they don’t verify. But considering the state of the Wii U in particular, it’s something we need to watch. So we’ll file this under Rumor, but we don’t believe it’s worth concern just yet.
Ugh, an old rumor brought back
A cut-price Wii U could just be enough to kick start sales.
That’s used up a week’s allocation of optimism in ten seconds.
It really could, though. The Wii U is a non-starter product at it’s current price, but at $150 for the 32GB model it would be a much, much easier sell.
May as well tell Microsoft and Sony to drop down to $200 or $300 for their new systems too. be fair or be quiet. The other consoles game library sucks just as bad. Why buy a console for one or two games you want? People always do it with Sony and Microsoft.
Could it Be the Next Gen Fusion DS and Fusion Master
Because they talked about early the year of specification on Fusion DS and Fusion Console that still backwards capable with WiiU and 3ds games.. From the looks of it This console is 10X better than PS4 specs…..and much simpler to used
Did you also ski in Hell and watch a pig fly? 😛
Never underestimate Nintendo.
10 times better though? Not buying it.
Too late, I already underestimated them! Their console is underpowered and their marketing decisions are god-awful. I don’t hate Nintendo but they need to start stepping up their game!
Fusion you mean the names given along with those bullshit specs?
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2014/01/nintendo-rumored-to-be-working-on-new-consoles-fusion-ds-and-fusion-terminal/
I really shouldn’t have to point out why almost all of that is bullshit to put it simply it’s the tech spec version of game design fanfiction. One of the creators funniest and possibly deliberate screwups is listing the non-existent “Holographic Enhanced SDHC” (which doesn’t exist anywhere but sites talking about this rumor, this should be obvious but holograms can’t enhance flash storage ) rather than SDXC.
You know maybe if these journalists exercised an once of critical thought or you know actually did some investigative journalism when writing up stories from these anonymous sources rumors like would stop being treated as the gospel.
I actually doubt they would unveil a new console to replace Wii U. Why? Plain and simple.
They’re not doing a live presentation.
Also, the Wii U is getting a new bundle this month in the form of Mario Kart 8.
I doubt it. Right now they’re too busy trying to save the Wii U.
I’m willing to bet its an upgraded Wii U. Probably a slimmer console, slightly different controller, and extended battery power.
Yeah. I’m placin’ may bets on a Wii U model that has more memory, Gamepad with hopefully 1-3 hour-longer battery life, and a decent price cut on both available models. Maybe a little something for 3DS and/or 2DS.
This better be fake, they’re already failing miserably with the Wii U!
Eh, it’s been selling decently in the more recent months. Of course, decent isn’t enough, but it’s still an improvement.
The fact that a lot of people (including my friends) thought that the Wii U was just a add-on to the Wii just screams “failure” to me. Nintendo’s marketing decisions are so abysmal. It’s nice that the sales are increasing a bit but they need to step up their game! I personally believe Smash Bros alone isn’t going to save the console.
I’m hoping it’s a 2DS XL and not a completely new system that would make things much worse for Nintendo especially while they are dealing with U’s failing sales
I highly doubt its a new console. But on the other hand, its not like they care too much about the Wii U anyway, considering they’re releasing Smash Bros on the 3DS months ahead of the Wii U version. Chances are, most people who buy the 3DS version are not going to fork over $250 to $300 to buy another version of a game they already own.
If anything, that means the 3DS version will get skipped over because the biggest smash fans will want to wait for the “real version” to come out, even if it means waiting.
What year was it when sites like 1up were swearing up and down the Wii HD was going to announced at E3 that year? I think it was 2009.
There is a new nintedno patent on on a handheld that looks like a 3ds, but the layout is kind of like a wiiu gamepad with a single screen. Maybe it is a second gamepad you connect to the wiiu and allows you to play your ds/3ds cartridges on the tv. I would love that.
If that were the case they wouldn’t be making a big deal about DS games coming to Wii U Virutal Console along with GBA games. It’s still absurd that 3DS gets neither of them on it’s eshop despite being able to run them natively, the GBA ambassador games didn’t need to be emulated because of the 3DS being backwards compatible with the original DS which was backwards compatible with the GBA.
Er… it has actually been said that the system has difficulties running the GBA software, as it does have to emulate; it doesn’t support them natively. I don’t have the exact links, but it’s been in several interviews. According to them, that’s the reason we got the games we did for the Ambassador program, because they were able to make them run smoothly. Don’t forget, the DS was only backwards compatible with the GBA software because it literally had the guts of a GBA within it as well; that’s the reason why the DSi and beyond were not, they removed that part to cut costs.
I’ll give you the whole DS games on eShop (although, as an advocate of physical copies, I don’t really care since my game library can be played on my 3DS by simply putting the cartridge in), but adding GBA games to the 3DS’s eShop is a whole lot more difficult than people like you seem to believe.
Should be labled “fake” instead of rumor. The only thing we might get is a smaller, slimmer gamepad with swappable buttons, but that particular patent is actually a few years old.
Should be labeled as totally false. According to Official Nintendo Magazing, a Nintendo UK rep just confirmed that there will be no new hardware shown at this year’s E3.

Thanks. 🙂
*Magazine. What in the world is a “Magazing?” Lol
1) I don’t see a new console, but one new accessory for Wii U or new OS.
2) About games: Wii U has the most high quality of first party games in the new generation, but the problem is the lack of third party games. Game Pad can save the Wii U and this is not a problem for the development, the problem is the CPU.
Nintendo confirmed today that these rumours are false. No surprise there.
