Rlan vs. Daniel Round 2: Sprites on Fan Game Pages
Another battle might be heating up–this time, Daniel Russell of Electro Sonic Team is seriously considering starting a Sprites archive on his page. Problem is, Rlan will not let him, and for a good reason–when Rlan parted company with Daniel way back when (they used to work together on a Fan Games site), they both drew up a list of rules that both would follow. That list included letting each respective site keep their unique features exclusive. This would mean that Dan can not make a Sprites section. However, the argument has been brought up by Dan that the popularity of EST is in decline. Now, the question stands: Will a sprite section on EST boost up the popularity so that EST takes the #1 fan game site crown away from SFGHQ?
Daniel posted this message on the EST Message Board yesterday:
Our ‘friend’ Rlan has disagreed with the putting up of a sprites section of my site, I have 2 choices:
1. Go ahead and make a sprite section without Rlan’s ‘permission’.
2. Not have a sprite section and watch my site wither and die.
As you may already have guessed, I’m going to choose option 1, I have a valuable argument:
If someone makes his own sprites, he should be able to put these sprites up on his site shouldn’t he? And if someone copies the *entire* *original* idea from someone’s site and the person who made the first site of that genre asks the copier to let the first person have a section he should hand it over? It wouldn’t be much to ask would it?
I AM going to put up the sprites section on my site with sprites Aytac and I made ourselves, you don’t have to get any if you don’t want to.. no-one’s forcing you are they?
I think my decision is only fair, don’t you?
The fire has been fueled, now who will be the victor of this conflict? Both sides have good arguments, but this can only further the rivalry of Daniel Russell and Rlan. We will have new developments on this developing story as they come in.
