Richard Jacques talks about his career and Sega
Richard Jacques, great musician and composer of several Sega games soundtracks like Headhunter, Metropolis Street Racer, Sonic R or the more recent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed among others, went to Spain to attend a convention called Play Fest.
This convention is about music of films, videogames, cartoon, and other media. Richard Jacques was invited to talk about his career as a film and videogame musician. Among other things, he talked about his work at Sega, and specially about the music he did compose for Sonic.
At the question of the public about if he was going to compose more lyrical song like in Sonic R, he answered that he is more interested in doing instrumental music for now.
You can see the complete talk here, with English subtitles.
“No more lyrics in his songs” makes it sound like he’s given up lyrics, despite saying later on that “he is more interested in doing instrumental music for now”.
Nonetheless, I’m looking real forward to his music!
Well, all his best works were non-lyric based anyway so I’m actually glad he’s sticking with instrumental.
It’s a pity to hear that, when it comes to lyrics, Jacques was my diamond in the sky.
But the real question is, can you or can you not feel the sunshine?
I hope he does do more lyrical songs, he’s the one I can rely on, no one else can put it right. (No seriously, I love that soundtrack.)
