Possible Sonic Team Announcement Soon
After close examination on the DC Tech Pages, there are some things that people want in SA2; first and foremost a higher polygon count. Some wanted upwards of 2 million pps, almost what Shenmue is running. Others wanted changed elements, like getting rid of the adventure aspect, some want more characters, some want less. A few wanted the Chaos removed. Many people wanted either Sonic 2 or 3 re-done. This just proves that there is a wide variety of opinions out there about what SA 2 should be. It should be interesting to find out what we’ll exactly get.
UPDATE 1/6:
After putting up the poll, it seems that a lot of you want Sonic Adventure 2. I checked with some members @ the DC Tech Pages Message Board (as I am now a forumer over there), and a couple want a rock solid official NiGHTS 2 announcement, and Sonic Adventure 2 with major improvements (2 million polygons per second was mentioned). So it seems that whatever the Sonic Team announces, some people will indeed be happy.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE 1/4: At least according to IGN DC’s site. This should be very interesting:
When Sonic Team announced that they had four new Dreamcast games in the works, we were shocked to hear that a sequel to Nights was not on the cards. Instead, Japanese gamers got an updated version of Sonic Adventure, a wacky puzzle game known as Chu Chu Rocket and a quirky arcade offering in the form of Samba De Amigo.
Also announced was Phantasy Star Online, but with that title being far from completion, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Yuji Naka’s company had its hands full. However, that may not be the case. Apparently, Sonic Team is set to announce something that will make Sega fans worldwide extremely happy. Unfortunately, we have yet to hear what team leader Yuji Naka has in mind.
There are a few likely possibilities, though. We all know that a sequel to Sonic on the Dreamcast has been confirmed, but we’ve yet to hear any information whatsoever on the title. It may be the case that Sonic Team is behind the latest installment, and with a release date for late this year, the first pieces of information are bound to be released very soon. Also possible, though, is the confirmation of a release date for Phantasy Star Online. When will the title hit Japan? Gamers worldwide would certainly be pleased to be on the receiving end of some solid details.
Finally, the aforementioned Nights 2 comes into the fray, and to be honest, this is the one for which we’ve all got our fingers crossed.
So, which one will it be? We’re hoping for the latter, but more details on the two confirmed projects would be very nice indeed. Let’s hope the wait isn’t too long.
We will continue to follow this closely, and if and when it happens, the Sonic Scene will have fair, balanced, and at the same time unrivaled coverage of the event.
