Paul Rudd Out of the Running for Sonic Movie Lead
If you were itching for Paul Rudd to lead Sonic’s first foray into feature films–a smattering of unflattering memes that spread on Twitter yesterday in the wake of the report from ThatHashtagShow would suggest otherwise–we have an unfortunate update to pass along.
THS has updated their story after speaking with a Paramount spokesperson, who confirmed to the organization that Rudd, of Ant-Man and Anchorman fame, is no longer being considered for the lead role in the Sonic movie.
Instead, THS now reports four actors are now in the running: Jack Black, Jason Segel, Ed Helms, and Owen Wilson.
The site also reports principal photography is to begin in Vancouver on July 30th, and wrap in late October.
All four contenders have been involved in family-friendly fare before. But both Segel and Wilson have focused on more serious fare of late. Helms is currently tied to another film, with its filming date unknown. Black will be a part of Jumanji 3, but that won’t begin shooting until the end of the year. In the meantime, aside from one tour date in October with Tenacious D, he would be free and clear to be a part of the Sonic movie.
We will update here with anything new we learn.
