New Sega Hardware On The Way?
Technology website Register Hardware are claiming an exclusive reveal on a new piece of Sega hardware they are calling a ‘PSP Beater’. Not a new games console but more a Portable Media Player called ‘Sega Vision’. The handheld device works as a portable TV player, movie player, music player, digital camera, e-book reader, voice recorder and can also play ‘java mini games’. Seems predictions of the PSP’s demise were premature.
A short trailer for the device and information on where to find it in the wild can be found on the Register Hardware website. The Sega Vision appears to literally be up for grabs at a London based arcade, as a prize in a grabber machine.
TSSZ News approaches this story cautiously due to the lack of official confirmation from Sega, the horridly poor looking trailer and the lack of specific details released thus far.
Update: October 4th
Sharing TSSZ News’ concern over the validity of the Sega Vision, Unofficial RPG Site contacted Sega themselves for comment and received the following reply.
“The Sega Vision is a real device but it is not intended as a re-entry to the gaming hardware market or a rival to Sony or Nintendo’s systems.”
“Sega is committed to remaining a software third party in the videogames industry, but also has several non-games products in the market. The Vision is primarily an MP4 video player with some basic games functionality, and not a new handheld gaming machine.”
Yea! cool! sega is back in the hardware business, I hope they make a gaming console soon:)
