The speculation grows.

Sonic Stadium has discovered a passage about Ken Pontac on the official website for the convention AOD, where he is to attend.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say “many admirers”, in fact I wouldn’t go so far as to speak for anyone in the fanbase, but the point is that it teases about an “upcoming video game featuring Sonic”. Exactly what this game will be is unknown but it’s rather strange that, if they refer to Fire & Ice, that it isn’t mentioned.
