Ken Penders: “Archie Can Use My Characters…They Always Could”
At this point this is looking to be a daily occurrence.
The build-up to round two of what may be another battle between Archie Comics and freelancers, including Ken Penders, continues with more cryptic tweets.
You may recall that recently, in fact within the past 24 hours as of this article’s writing, Penders mentioned that he wishes for his characters to be only used for reprints. He again reinforced his inability to say much but he also reinforced the notion that indeed Archie Comics is allowed to use his characters:
The inability to reveal any details continued but Penders did imply that a fan was “getting on the right track” in regards to what they proposed the problem was:
Yet again there were royalties mentioned:
It is looking increasingly likely that royalties play some kind of factor in the matter. It may not be the main issue but perhaps a fraction of it.
Regardless of lawsuits, royalties, and characters Penders has absolutely no inside knowledge about what is going on within Archie. However based on another tweet it seems is not liking Archie’s current situation. When asked if legal issues are to blame for the Mega Man comics being put on hiatus he speculates that Archie “may be preparing to sell the company”.
It may seem strange that we keep reporting on random tweets from a social media site but it is our only official source of information about the legal troubles that are ensuing. No one at Archie Comics has made any comments on the subject and odds are the confidential system in place will keep anyone from saying much of anything. Penders’ Twitter is the only communication available and, unless we hear anything from the other side of the case, it will stay that way.
The one exception may be if this heads into court. We’ll see information about the lawsuit and documents filed. However it appears that Twitter will be the primary source for the time being.
