GameStop Expo 2014: Portion of Sonic Boom Cutscene Uploaded
The Sonic Boom news from this year’s GameStop Expo continues with YouTube footage of the portion of a new cut scene seen before the start of a level on Rise of Lyric for Wii U. The user, Jason Berry of The Sonic Stadium, explains what wasn’t recorded on video:
Sorry I wasn’t able to grab the whole thing. From the Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric demo at GameStop Expo. This cutscene takes place at the end of the Toxic Waste level. the part you missed was Amy stopping in front of the canyon outside and admiring it’s beauty. Sonic gets impatient and says “Let’s keep going!” Amy tells him “We’re finally not being chased by a giant robot. For once, let’s just stop and just soak this all in.” And as we see in the video, Sonic does his best to wait, but it’s obviously driving him crazy. If you pause, you can also see the very beginnings of the next level.
And here is the video itself. TSSZ will keep you informed of any news that breaks out of the GameStop Expo.

Loving the animation in the cutscene. I love how Sonic doesn’t look impatient in a cliched way Instead of an obviously cringing face, his face is more subtle yet you could still tell he’s impatient through his body and not through a obnoxious cartoony fashion. It’s small but it’s charming in a way. Reminds me of the charming bits in shows like Transformers Prime.
If anybody could force Sonic to stop and enjoy the scenery, it’s Amy. X)
True, but is that down to him liking the way she looks in her new outfit, or because she’ll flatten him with her Piko Hammer if he doesn’t bend to her will occasionally?
I’m going with the latter.
@ RaceProUK: Yes. X)
What do you think we’re talking about? It’s all in English; just read it.
Um, we’re talking about the cutscene. What are YOU talking about? :/
Maybe Sonic Boom will not be a great game, but my god, this new Amy is great: no more obsessive sonic fetish and some good smart dialogue…can’t they use her in the regular series?
To be honest, I hope they still maintain some of her interest in Sonic. Not as much as she has in the main series, but just enough so she still feels like a mature version of herself. I’ve been fine with the idea of her liking Sonic, I just always thought it had to be used more subtly, and now they have a chance to use her like that. I just hope that making her strong and independent didn’t also mean having to take away one of her most integral character traits.
Gotta say its really refreshing seeing different models besides the (Unleashed/Hedgehog Engine) styled models. I have to say i’m just about worn out with every Sonic game almost looking the same these days. I also have to say it’s pretty sad that in order for us to play with different characters these days in the Sonic Universe, we have to cut away from the main canon smh. But owell iguess, lets not look at the glass half-way empty
You don’t remember how the main problem at the time was how they focused too much on his friends instead of focusing on making a Sonic platformer?
I’m quite fond of the Hedgehog engine design actually, it’s a good standardization for the series. It’s pretty much the official look now. Still, as long as it’s in spin-offs, I’m fine with other engines and designs. I’m wondering what the designs for the Next Gen Sonic will look like though…
Of all the days…..
Oh man, so psyched for this. 🙂
I was just at the booth yesterday ;D
