Famitsu Interview With Iizuka Posted & Translated
Famitsu had quite a bit of new Sonic Forces news in their latest issue. Sonic United has translated the information:
Tails
A fox with two tails and Sonic’s friend who’s currently lost contact with him!
Knuckles
An echidna who’s also Sonic’s rival/friend. Sonic has gone missing and Knuckles (Captain of the Resistance Army) is holding back Eggman’s invasion.
Story
Sonic’s disappearance was shocking news to everyone. Sonic’s friends, who had escaped from Eggman’s invasion, have formed the resistance army. The resistance has bases in several areas. Your Avatar visits the Resistance’s Secret Base and it is then that the story begins…
The secret base was created so they could stay hidden from Eggman. Silver and Espio are seen as hero figures. Amy is responsible for communication work.
We also got a brief interview with Sonic Team, which contains new information on Infinite:
Q: What is the nature of this extremely powerful villain Infinite?
Iizuka: He was not always evil, but unlike Chaos, Infinite was not born by mutation, he’s animal character like Sonic’s team. The reason why he becomes powerful and why he becomes evil… you’ll get your answer in Shadow’s free DLC.
Q: What is the purpose of Eggman’s army vs. Sonic’s team?
Iizuka: Dr. Eggman controls his army corps and Infinite shows off his power. The answer for why Eggman has been able to dominate the world lies within Infinite’s abilities.
Q: Many bosses from previous generations are returning. The reason for it is?
Nakamura: I want you (the player) to have thoughts like “Why!?” while you’re playing. For example: “Why has Shadow become an enemy?” and “Why does Chaos exist again?” You will get the answer while playing the game.

If I’m cringing, it’s because I once wrote a fanfic nearly identical to this when I was 15. I’m still cringing from that.
Sorry if Forces ain’t going to be my cup of tea…
How is being seduced and gaining perceptibly infinite powers cringe-worthy? It is a narrative that has been approached by various authors of fiction throughout the ages. How then does your 15-year-old fan fiction compare to something you have not read or seen yet to determine its quality?
If executed properly, even the cringiest of fanfics can become reality. Look at Nazo Unleashed for example, sh*t is obviously fanfic but it’s pretty cool nonetheless.
The reason why I’m defending the story of this game is not because I’ve written a very similar story about 4-5 years ago as well, though that is also a fact.
I can understand that but personally, I don’t see that as a bad thing at all. It feels kiddy, but in a really good way. IMO it *should* feel like a young Sonic fan’s fanfic because wouldn’t that be so exciting for them? I find it really cool because Forces absolutely makes me feel like I’m 15 again and I love it.
Just my two rings-I mean- cents!
Only thing I don’t like is that Infinite’s turn to the Dark Side of the Force is explained in Shadow’s DLC. So without the DLC it won’t make sense?? Will the DLC spoiler the game then?? Like it comes before the real story but you have to play it after to not ruin anything surprising?
That…actually sounds like a pretty interesting way to start off a story like this. I’m legitimately excited for this story, which is more than I can say about the gameplay unfortunately. I really really hope that if nothing else, the story is the most polished part of this game. I know that the gameplay should always be top priority, but at this point in development I don’t see much changing from what we’ve already seen. At least let me have this much.
