EA Likely to Not Support Dreamcast
In a recent conference call by EA concerning earnings, Electronic Arts inferred that it is placing all bets on the Playstation 2. Apparently, they think the current market is terrible; and thus the next few months for them may be a bit harsh on the company sales wise. In short, they believe the Dreamcast will not be a factor in the market once the PS2 is released.
There has been some fallout in the business world over this; 2 analysts have downgraded EA, including Morgan Stanley. Keep in mind that EA has slowly been losing profit over the past few years, and if this chance is taken and fails, EA will not be developing for any platform period since it will be out of business. Rumors are flying that Sony may not even release the PS2 domestically in 2000, a sign that a big hit may be taken On a related note, Visual Concepts, developer of some of the sports 2K titles on DC, used to make EA Madden titles. It will be interesting to see how the financial state of EA will play out over this year with this bold new step being taken.
