E3 2000: More Dreamcast Tech Demos
Forget the messed up title, just read the article:
The first TV showed a simple application named DreamCall by Innon Media. The main screen consisted of a number pad and a few other pieces of info, like the Dreamcast’s IP address, and was explained to us as a voice-over-IP technological demo. Expected for release in Japan soon (and hopefully, eventual US release), this technology allows people connected to the Internet to talk to others on the ‘Net or to place standard phone calls through their Internet-connected device. In this case, that device is the Dreamcast. No pricing structure is determined yet, but we’ll have more word as we learn more. Inno Media was full aware of services such as Dialpad and Phone Free and is examining their options accordinly
The second TV screen showed a maze-like game called Dream Dorobo. Dorobo is Japanese for “Thief,” we were told, and the object of this game is simple: steal a bunch of money from the maze and make it out before the cops get to you. The twist? You can’t see the whole maze, but your buddy – who instructs you via voice-over-IP, can. The two of you must work closely to grab the loot and avoid being grabbed yourselves. Dream Dorobo will be out this summer in Japan and would be a likely candidate for US release once DreamCall is up and running here.
However, no word on a domestic release yet.
