I'll have more to say towards the weekend.
— Ian Flynn (@IanFlynnBKC) July 19, 2017
So far? Nothin' but love. Get that "Sonic fans are the worse" noise outta here.
— Ian Flynn (@IanFlynnBKC) July 19, 2017
I just heard the news of @SEGA severing its relationship with @ArchieComics. Not surprised. I'll have more on this to say later.
— Ken Penders (@KenPenders) July 19, 2017
At a minimum it opens the door for KNUCKLES and MOBIUS: 25 YEARS LATER reprint collections. No one else can touch this material.
— Ken Penders (@KenPenders) July 19, 2017
You have no idea how many times the publishers wanted to pull the plug on the book, even when I was working on it.
— Ken Penders (@KenPenders) July 19, 2017
While I'm truly sorry for the fans, I have to deal with realities of the business aspects of this situation. I'll be fine in the meantime.
— Ken Penders (@KenPenders) July 19, 2017
You guys… The outpouring of love and support for the Sonic books and the team tonight is humbling and appreciated like you cannot know.

I have been glued to my phone the last several hours, reading your kind words. Your stories about the books and more!
— Matt Herms (@MattHerms) July 20, 2017
Sonic was the first comic book I ever collected. It introduced me to comics! And 14 years later, it's where I started my career.
— Matt Herms (@MattHerms) July 20, 2017
It was a special book to many. It's an honor to have been a part of it. Would've been 10 years for me in Oct – a decade I'll always cherish!
— Matt Herms (@MattHerms) July 20, 2017
Month after month, I got to work with the best in the biz: @IanFlynnBKC, @yardleyart, @AdamBryceThomas, @tyson_hesse, @Jamal_Peppers…

Lying awake at 2am. Tired of my heart and career getting caught in the crossfire.

I woke up to more mentions and comments than I can scroll through! Thank you all for the kindness, I'll get some proper replies done soon.

Wow. And there you have it. I feel fortunate I had the opportunity to have worked a bit on the tail end of the comics I grew up loving. https://t.co/74GeEhSKcc

My only regret is su95/96 not comin out. I really liked drawing those "berserk inspired" issues (artwise). I got to design major characters!
— ABT ☕️ (@AdamBryceThomas) July 20, 2017
I knew it. Only another publisher will save us now
Viz, perhaps?
I would say IDW or Marvel personally
After all the SJW heroes, PLEASE not Marvel.
I go with IDW.
MArvel is horrible right now so I hope not them. IDW or Dark Horse would be more preferred.
Hey look, it’s me
gotta love how penders is already dancing on the grave.
sigh well this sucks there gone. but my big qustion is
can i hav emy money back?
My heartstrings are being pulled all over the place. I loved these comics and everyone involved. Even though we sorta knew this was coming, it hurts even after finally being told so. And everyone’s responses have had me in tears… except for Penders. Seriously though, Penders?! Damn. At least the Sonic will continue into the world of comics, I just hope we see the same people return for the new comic.. please?!
It’s kind of like watching the credits roll after the bittersweet ending of a movie.
Shonen Jump. I really want a Sonic manga to be on Shonen Jump. That way Sonic can be on the next J-Stars Game.
That would be a good idea.
It would be… for western fans only as Sonic is not as popular in Japan as he is in America and Europe.
Pretty sad considering it was SOJ who changed Robotnik’s name to Eggman during the adventure days, and yes I am aware that Eggman is Robotnik’s original name and that Robonik was a translation error. But still Id prefer Robotnik over Eggman.
Now to wait for Penders to address that he will be cancelling his fanfiction or get Sega involved with having Sega characters in his fanfiction like Sonic and Knuckles.
Dreymor
That’s not what happened…. They added “Eggman” in the U.S. and “Robotnik” in Japan with that game instead of it being different between the two. And Eggman was first
Geez, this is heartbreaking for Everyone. At least those writers put on a good show.
I now heard a rumor that IDW will be the new publisher for Sonic the Hedgehog in comic book form since Sega is planning to strike a deal with IDW. Could this be true?
No. Stop feeding false rumors.

Take a good look at the connection.
Well… Too all of the fans of the best Sonic cartoon… We are now truly abandoned… Such BS. The least Sega could have done was too let the story be concluded, with STH, SU, and Mega Drive. Shit, by the time the hiatus started, they could’ve wrapped things up right now.
Honestly, I think SEGA might be better off of letting this go. Besides it’s been a hell of a run.
Not to pile on Archie – to be honest, I’m not invested in the Sonic comics, I just kind of observed this whole thing impassively, so I don’t have a mad on for them – but there probably could have been a conclusion before the hiatus if Archie had given their people even half a clue things were anywhere near that dire. It’s not like they haven’t lost a license before. Per Dan Slotts own words, he had an issue and a halfs notice Archie had lost the Ninja Turtles license; insanely late to be telling someone that, at least to me, but it at least gave him some opportunity to put a bow on what he could and nix things that were supposed to be part of a larger run. I didn’t even know any of that until this week.
@Sonicgalaxy27: I mean, it was said best in an earlier article by someone who claimed to know much earlier it was done; it was a niche comic book based on a long dead animated series, but it went on for over two decades, accumulated just shy of three hundred issues and after DC’s complete New 52 reboot was, for years, the longest running ongoing publication in comics without a renumbering. That’s nothing to sneeze at. I’d go so far as to call it pretty impressive.
Also the longest running licensed monthly comic book with a single run.
@DL316BH Well, DC Comic’s did alot of things in the past and make 200 comic’s, but what does DC Comic’s has to do with this? Also, your right, its bad enough that they have to pull the plug on this long time sonic comic series. Beside’s its alot nice that they have to make alot of issues for this series.
No need to be extra salty, it seems Sega waited for the Shattered World Crisis arc to finish, for that I’m grateful, its understandable they couldn’t wait for every other arc to be over, let’s just be happy for all the good times and lift our faces towards the future.
My heart hurts… :'(
Sigh… I’m not so broken up, considering we’ve had the writing on the wall for a while now. But this is still very sad. I didn’t realize until after it was gone just how important a role this comic played in me being a Sonic Fan. I got disillusioned from it after the Universe Reset, and in that time my enjoyment in the franchise declined. When the Sonic Comic Humble Bundle came, it gave me an in, and got me back into them, and holy shit I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed it! The power of long-form storytelling is not something the main series of games has not had much of. With the universe practically resetting every game, and continuity being relegated to largely cameo appearances. Particularly after Shadow the Hedgehog. And it’s not that that’s bad, the more episodic nature works fine for the games. But the security in a world and characters that will keeping getting just a little bit bigger and more fleshed out every month did a lot more for me than I realized. I’m glad we’re still gonna be getting comics, but I’m very sad we have to start from square one again. And the fact that I haven’t been super into the more recent definition of Sonic, I worry a 2017/2018 reinvention of Sonic won’t grab my interest, and I’ll be left without any current part of the franchise for me. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see though.
I feel like it might be appropriate to change the poll to a Comic themed one, though probably better to wait till after SDCC in case there’s more relevant news.
Its very nice to read all the kind comments and wishes from the former artist of the comic, I’m very grateful to have had such passionate people working on the franchise I’m so passionate about.
This is the side of the fanbase I’m so proud to be part of, these are business decisions, there is no point complaining or bashing, let’s all show maturity and support, and don’t forget that when a door closes a window is open.
Even in this tragic situation, Ken Penders still manages to find a way to be a colossal douche.
Some people are better off purged from this world. Nothing of negative consequence will happen in his absence. Nothing worthy of an impact.
Aww man. I’m still sad about this.
Now to wait for Penders second account “BobR” to come here and bash any nie sayer about Pender of his fanfiction.
I kind of saw this coming. I hoped I was wrong. I thought I was prepared…
So why does it still hurt?
Tried posting a comment on this yesterday; guess it got lost in the tubes. Oh, well. I was pretty pissed when I wrote it (mostly at the fans). Not so pissed today; just upset (mostly at the fans). But still, over the course of yesterday Ken Penders has been on the receiving end of a rather appalling spoiled brat tirade. One idiot even proudly boasted about filing a false report on one of his tweets claiming that it was threatening.
Ken Penders is not to blame for this. Archie and SEGA’s irresponsible business decisions and the choices they made in the creative direction of the Sonic series are directly responsible for this comic ending like this. And by the way, Archie has screwed over Ian and the rest of the creatives involved in this series as well. To string along the people involved in this series they way they have for the last 6+ months is downright abusive. From what I’ve seen, this is part of Archie’s modus operandi.
By the way, just an unrelated FYI: Comcast is experiencing a massive nationwide outage. Internet was down in my place until about 7AM. IPv4 is up and running, but IPv6 is still down. Just thought I would mention this in case anyone cared.
