ChuChu Rocket Launch Part 3: More Reviews and Language Options
Jim Cordeira of Gaming Age has reviewed CCR, giving it an A- grade. The review is here, but here’s a snippet:
Besides the above multiplayer modes, Chu Chu Rocket features a number of addictive single player puzzle modes. In these Puzzle and Stage Challenge modes, the goal is to guide a set group of Chu Chus through a maze, into the rockets, without losing any to the Kapu Kapus or holes scattered about. All stages are timed, and clear times recorded, so when you log onto the Chu Chu Network you can be entered into the Worldwide or Local rankings. Some of the later stages require plenty of planning and strategy to actually clear, and there are undoubtedly a few that will drive you insane. Also, if you feel that you can compete with Sonic Team’s evil puzzle designers, a Puzzle Edit mode is included as well. Of course, all your custom built puzzles can be uploaded onto the Chu Chu Rocket servers for others to download and try out.
Now, what if you’re online, speaking English, and you’re beating the pants off of a Japanese gamer, and you don’t know how to tell them, “Ha ha, you suck!”? Well, this little tidbit from IGN Dreamcast will relieve your fears somewhat (though you can’t say the example phrase above):
What about communication? How are people in Japan supposed to communicate with people in Europe and America in the game’s matching server, which allows you to chat with players in order to enter a match. It turns out that Sega actually has a solution to this.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reveals that Chu Chu features a translation system that can translate 22 phrases into five different languages. The phrases are basic, with “I won” and “Are you giving up” being two examples, but they should go a long way towards uniting the world, hand in hand, Chu Chu in rocket.
