Bentley Jones Talks Sonic To Gaming Union
Gaming Union were recently lucky enough to have a chat with Bentley Jones. The musician has recently been linked with Sega and Sonic being the artist behind Silver’s theme in Sonic 06 and various other projects since. Bentley Jones was even seen at last years Summer of Sonic singling live for the audience with Sega music legend Richard Jaques and the voice of Sonic R, TJ Davies.
So what better subject to grill Bentley about than the spiky blue one himself? Ranging from his favourite Sonic game to what he’s playing now and even finding a little time to talk about Sonic music. The part probably most interesting to TSSZ News readers would be his thoughts on Sonic Unleashed. Panned by the press but beloved by some fans the game seems to have split opinions down the middle. Here’s what Bentley Jones has to say on the matter when asked what he thinks about the new Sonic games…
“I don’t know, I think Sonic gets a hell of a lot of stick from the critics and he’s held up to a double standard. The latest one is Unleashed and I really enjoy playing it – I’m not sure what people will think about that – but I thought it was really good and I think it was definitely a step in the right direction for the series. If they used Unleashed as a template for the next Sonic game, then we could definitely see Sonic returning to his former glory of the 90s.”
You can read the full interview here but for those of you hoping to catch Bentley Jones at this years Summer of Sonic, you might be disappointed.
“Arrgh, man! Honestly, because people think I’m bluffing or trying to avoid it because I’m planning a surprise appearance or something. But honestly, I want to go but at this point I don’t know if I can make it. That evening I have to be way up North, so it’s figuring out how I can be in London for the Morning/Lunchtime then getting all the way up North in the same day. I’m trying my best to work something out though, and if I manage it I’ll officially announce it and everyone will know about it. Until then though, even I don’t know.”

He’s excellent. More publicity for Sonic!
Thank you sir. Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction. Not perfect, but definitely a good start.
Unleashed? Step in the RIGHT direction? Bullshit.
Unleashed was a step in the right direction. Not perfect game, but definitely a PERFECT start.
please SEGA use this concept for next sonic
& MUSIC PLEASE!
I agree with PJ, KAMu and Bentley Jones. Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction, and I hope that Sonic Team continues in that direction with the next Sonic game, even with the director of Sonic Unleashed having left Sonic Team. But even without the director of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Team can still make a good Sonic game with SU daytime-like levels for the next Sonic game even without his guidance.
@Kits: So you don’t think that Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction, then? Then what Sonic game would you consider a step in the right direction?
Hedgehog Engine FTW!
I’ll to answer your question Sonication, Sonic and the Black Knight.
First you take a pinch of Sonic Heroes themed levels.
Add a dash of gameplay and fixed camera from Sonic Unleashed.
MIX THE F*** OUT OF IT!!
And what do you get?! 😀
… A decent to good game?
Kits’Okami is probably just still miffed about the Werehog, which is understandable. To me, Werehog functioned ok, and I guess could be considered kinda cool, but I won’t shed a single tear if we never saw him again.
The story, the day stages and everything was the biggest step forward in Sonics history ever!
If the werehog just was like he looked like in the beginning it would just be awsome. Don’t you think this looks awsome?
Yeah, it was one of the first trailers for Unleashed! The werehog looks awsome and super cool! But did we get what we saw on that trailer?… NO! We did not! And that’s the problem with the game. We didn’t get what we saw on the trailer! I want that werehog! I want it now! Not a friendly and boring Monster guy! I want a cool and scary monster guy with blue hairy dark graphics!
Thank you, Mr Jones. You gave me another reason to love you. XD
