Asking Prices for Moonwalker Game Skyrocket on EBay
As is par for the course when any celebrity dies, Michael Jackson memorabilia is going for a premium on EBay, as fans rush to gather what they can in memory of the entertained they loved. Not immune from the frenzy is the 1990 home console edition of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, released to the Sega Master System, Genesis, and Game Gear. Originally released to the arcades, the home console version is quickly rising in popularity on the auction block.
While we did find one Sega Master System edition of Moonwalker at $8.04 as of this publication, many of the Genesis/Master System editions are going for much higher. One such auction for the Genesis edition, ending in just a few hours, has a current top bid of $200. Other sellers are offering a “Buy it Now” option for as high as $315.
But perhaps this deal takes the cake. You, too, can have a mint condition copy of Moonwalker for the Genesis, as well as a near mint copy of the original 1982 Thriller album for the low, low price of…$1,999.99.
All this, as many in the industry in today’s times reflect on the Moonwalker game as a poor licensing choice on a part of both Michael Jackson and Sega. That wasn’t totally the case in 1990, when the game was first released to arcades, and then to home consoles.
As the world continues to mourn the death of the King of Pop, TSSZ News will continue to deliver to you all important and relevant details regarding his passing. We have a story on Sonic community reaction planned for publication later, and we are hearing murmurs about possible community tributes to Jackson and his music. Once we get more concrete details about those, they will be passed along.
