Archie’s Princess Sally Mini-Series Released Digitally

Yesterday, in a rather interesting and perhaps encouraging move given what’s been happening with the Sonic comics of late, Archie Comics re-released the complete Princess Sally mini-series from 1995 for sale on digital platforms.

It’s interesting given the current climate between Ken Penders, a co-writer on the series, and Archie Comics.  We have now been following for months the legal wrangle between the two parties, in which Archie sued Penders over the copyrights he filed related to his work on the series.  We checked today, and while there were settlement terms reached in December, there appears to be no formal settlement in place on the public record, at least.  Penders is credited by name in Archie’s preview of the release.

It is also encouraging given the fears set from the recent Endangered Species arc, which included what was essentially a banishment of much of the Echidna related characters via a warp ring–many of whom were created by Penders and in dispute in Archie’s lawsuit.  Current series writer Ian Flynn conceded in December that the arc was re-written and has acknowledged changes are in the works for the future, but he has refused to say outright whether we will see the Penders-era characters in the future or if not, whether that’s a result of the ongoing dispute, despite both our and fans’ repeated requests to clarify the air.  Though a legacy mini-series, this release at least suggests that catalog releases will keep rolling out.
