Additional Retailers End DC Pre-Orders
It appears that it’s more than Babbages/Software Etc. A lot more. Here’s the article from Sega X:
Following up on earlier reports, a bevy of video game retailers have prematurely stopped taking pre-orders for the US Dreamcast console. As our source indicated a few weeks back, Sega of America was reaching their preset limit of 200,000 pre-orders and had advised retailers to stop taking them altogether until after the console’s September 9th launch.
It seems that SOA is letting that number slip past 300,000 units (which it already has), with stores like Electronics Boutique still involved in the pre-ordering campaign. But they want to be sure that production can match the demand, and gamers who have pre-ordered the console can actually buy one on 9.9.99.
What this means in the grand scale is on September 9th there will be a lot of happy customers who have pre-ordered, but a massive demand for the DC console from those who haven’t. We’ll see how all this plays out on launch day. Regardless, there is very little doubt now that the Dreamcast’s arrival will indeed be the largest console launch in history.
This basically means that if you didn’t pre-order a console by now, you’re pretty much screwed over until the next shipment of DCs arrive. Check back to the Sonic Scene for what’s going on.
