Lost Coast is a cut level from Half-Life 2 that was released separately as a tech demo to showcase Valve’s advanced graphical features, such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting. The level is set on a rocky coastal area near City 17, where players must infiltrate a cliffside church occupied by Combine forces. The gameplay focuses on combat and environmental exploration, with commentary nodes providing insights into the design and development process.
