An Interview with Dash
Early this afternoon I got the chance to catch up with Dash, who is head of the E Group and head of The Sonic Saga, a fan comic that’s pretty new. Included in this interview are
SONIC SCENE: Okay, first question: How did TSS start up originally?
DASH: Well, it’s a long a twisty story, really. So much that you could actually write a biography about it. Hmm, well, back in August of ’98, I came into the Sonic Internet fandom world. And now that I knew Sonic had a audience on the Internet, and since I loved making comics, why
not make a Sonic fan comic? So, that’s how this whole thing started.
SS: Interesting. You have a love for comics?
D: Well, making them, yes. Not actually reading them though. Although I have just recently subscribed to Archie’s Sonic comic.
SS: Well, since you’ve probably read the Sonic comics, what are your thoughts on them as of this point?
D: To tell you the truth, I haven’t gotten my first issue yet 😛 So I couldn’t really answer that, sorry…A friend just showed me to Archie’s website were I could subscribe online. So I said what the heck, I’ll go ahead and subscribe. I mean, I have some money left over in my Dreamcast account.
SS: Well, it was worth asking. 🙂 Next, you just cut a couple staff members from the E Group…Exactly why was staff cut and the E Group formed?
D: Well, John Fell and I actually had this planned for a while. The main reason was because, basically, the people that were cut were not going to actually do much work. We simply didn’t need their service. And we also want to keep the staff small. That’ll way, we can monitor work more closely and overall, things will be done faster. However, there are some more reasons other than that. But I’m not going to
comment on them..
SS: Fair enough. Now, can you tell about anything in the upcoming issues of TSS?
D: Well, in TSS #2, the plot and most of the characters will be introduced. Beyond that, though, a lot of things happen. As to what
happens, I’m not going to say as it’ll spoil the whole thing 😛
SS: Well, we don’t want everything spoiled, do we? :-)…What are your
thoughts on Sonic Adventure, the Dreamcast, and the Sonic Community in general?
D: Oh, well, Sonic Adventure looks sweet 😛 I played it about five times at Best Buy, and I’m still blown away by the graphics. And Dreamcast, I love the thing. Can’t wait to get my hands on it on 9.9.99. And as for the Sonic Community, I think it’s just going to get better and better once SA hits the States =^)
SS: Before I go, one final quick question: How long do you expect TSS to continue? You did say in your FAQ that, depending on public opinion, it would last two years or so.
D: Yes, it will have three seasons (10 issues each) no matter what. So that’s 30 issues. So actually, it’ll be around for three years. But if it becomes very popular after that, well, it’ll continue as long as it can generate readers.
SS: Well, Dash, I thank you very much for your time, and I wish you great luck on the comic.
D: Thanks a lot. And thanks for interviewing me 😛
