DC Browser 1.1: First Impressions
Well, after being obsessed with the ChuChu Rocket demo for a week and a half, I finally moved on to the other big thing in the ODCM disc: The Browser.
Simply put, it’s a great tool for browsing the ‘Net on your DC, but for some reason I liked the original design better. Here is what was claimed to be changed: Seeing the number you’re dialing, less buggy Javascript, easier to use “Command Clusters” (the little set of buttons when the Start button is pushed), and a revamp of the DC Network HQ pages. Well, at least one of those is right.
First off, the Javascript is just like it was in the original, if not buggier. TSSZ uses a lot of Javascript, and the main page was pretty much fine with the original. With the latest version, forget it.
Also, unless they mean seeing the number you’re dialing in the Options menu, from the time I’ve spent with it, I haven’t found a way to do such a thing. If I’m wrong, please E-Mail me, but for now, that statement is a crock.
I personally liked the Command Clusters in the original version. The ones in the new version are big and bulky. While it may be better for those who can’t see quite as well as I can (supposedly, I have perfect vision), it’s really not that much of a jump.
But, yes indeed, the DC Network main pages were re-done, and they look pretty good. I like the design used, and now there’s more stuff, like VMU downloads. Good job to the web designers who did that.
The E-Mail format has not changed much, so that is some good news. However, I do have one final gripe–why could this not come on a separate CD? I really don’t want to go through the ODCM menus to get to this.
So, overall, there is a difference between the previous and current versions of the DC Browser…but not that much.
