Metallic Madness Day 3 Results and Analysis

The third day of Metallic Madness is in the books, and we’re halfway to sowing the seeds of our Speedy 16. Here are how the brackets look after today’s matches:

Some observations from the day:
Classic Sonic is gone; long live Modern Sonic. The clash of the titans by far received the most votes of any match today. Even after a polling error forced a restart of the competition, ninth seeded Modern Sonic decisively dethroned Classic Sonic atop the Little Planet division. With third-seeded Super Sonic’s win today The match could set up another clash of Sonic generations in the Emerald 8 round–if Tails or Sticks don’t act as spoiler.
A Big Victory? Classic Sonic’s defeat potentially opens the door for Sunday’s Battle of the Bulge – (10) Eggman vs. (2) Big the Cat – to run away with the Little Planet division. Evil over good has been a recurring theme in this tournament – even today, fifth seeded Egg Army sent Uncle Chuck packing. If Eggman doesn’t upset Big, can the aloof fan favorite upset Super Sonic a clear a path to the division title?
Sally could be next top seed to fall. Though she advanced to the Speedy 16, it was by the skin of her teeth, barely prevailing over ninth seeded Grounder. The Mobius division continues to look wide open for anyone to prevail. Increasingly it appears Egg Army could dethrone a top seed next weekend.
Sonic Retro suddenly looks vulnerable. Though the website again prevailed today versus Sonic Radio to advance to the Speedy 16, it was with the least amount of support among the more than 800 votes cast today, and the least amount of votes the site’s received so far in competition. In contrast, nearly double the votes were cast in the round that sent fourth seed Sonic Paradise to face Retro. Their match on Friday will certainly be one to monitor.
All of this is as real as Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3. Still not a competition with any meaning, guys. Still all in good fun.
