Fan Fridays: Joshua Salkeld
The definition of what constitutes a “speedrun” changes depending on who you talk to. Some believe that speedrunners can and should exploit glitches in a game to push their times as far as physically possible, while others prefer to stay within the the confines of the intended mechanics. No matter your take on it, this week’s feature should give you something cool to savor thanks to YouTuber Joshua Salkeld.
Salkeld utilizes some repeatable glitches in Sonic Unleashed to basically tear the game apart – and boy, does he tear it apart. Many of his runs complete entire acts in under a minute, with some approaching just 20 seconds; he was even able to complete the entirety of Eggmanland in a little over three minutes. Quite a few of his videos feature glitches known as Mspeed and Dspeed, which manipulate the game’s control mechanics to achieve speeds far beyond anything normally achievable.
We’ve included some of his recent runs and glitches here, but you can check out the rest of his video catalog on his YouTube page. As always, we’re on the lookout for fan works to spotlight, so if you have a project you want the world to know about, send us a link at fansonfriday@tssznews.com!
