Y2K Coverage
It looks like that most of the Internet community, along with the rest of the world, has turned over to the new century with no real problems.
I say ‘most’ because there are several major areas where there are problems. The most severe of those areas is indeed the DC Tech Pages Board. This is where the Sonic Scene gets a lot of information. We have just found out that their board is not Y2K compliant, and is not working, period. Dural, who is the moderator over there, says he might attempt to fix the code. We’ll keep you updated.
Other problems: Suneet Shah’s Message Board is malfunctioning just a bit, showing the year ’10’ in the two digit year area. But it is not disrupting anything over there. His news area is fine as well, as is our interaction system, Kedzie K’s news board and communications area, Team Artail’s new message board, and the other sites.
One thing though- those who are using the EZBoard system: By the time you read this, their servers should be close to coming back up. They were down from midnight on today; it was a planned disruption, as was our server fiasco early today.
Finally, I was able to get to SegaSonic.Net‘s rollover party on IRC last night. For the time I was there, everyone had a pretty good time. We were talking about Sonic Doom 2, AJ Freda’s project before the SRB series, and now it might be going to another source port of Doom (UPDATE: It was NOT the SRB2 series, thanks AJ), Pokemon parodies, WSSN Radio, and the state of the DC. I am glad to say that almost everyone that responded to my question thought that the PS2 should not have a big impact on the DC.
As Neon pointed out, his new site opened, TNN. And it is a good one. Not only is music present, but loads of downloadable goodies, merchandise information, a store, basics to get you started on making your Sonic website, and the Internet in general…the list goes on.
Really quickly, although we went through Y2K without a hitch, I want to make clear that I will probably not be doing any CGI here (ie we’re going to still have this page updated manually for a while) because of what I saw with the DC Tech Pages and what happened to the counter last night. So, apart from that, happy new year, friends.
