Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone Coming to Turbo Grafx-16 Mini
It seems everyone who’s able to get in on re-releasing classic consoles for today’s gamers wants in on a piece of that retro revenue. With Nintendo’s success launching the NES and SNES Classic and despite Sony’s PlayStation Classic flopping, we’ll be seeing at least three systems of yesteryear coming to market over the next year, including Sega’s Genesis Mini.
But Sega does not appear to have stopped at its own system, as two arcade classics will be making the jump to Konami’s revived Turbo Grafx-16 Mini. First launched in Japan in 1987 by Hudson Soft, that system will be out in March, and will include the US version of Space Harrier as ported by NEC, and the 1988 NEC Japanese version of Fantasy Zone. Given the recently announced remaster of Space Harrier through Sega Ages for the Nintendo Switch, that title in particular is an interesting choice.
You can see the other choices made in a trailer Konami released overnight; watch it below. The Turbo Grafx-16 Mini will be sold exclusively through Amazon.com, and pre-orders will begin next week as a part of Amazon’s Prime Day event.
