Sonic Movie Expected to Make $200M Domestic Box Office
The official numbers for the opening weekend of the Sonic movie are now in, with the film making just over $70 million over four days in the US and Canada. Add in worldwide numbers and the movie is sitting pretty with $113 million in box office receipts.
But the film should not stop there. According to Deadline, industry estimates now project the film will make “in the $200M vicinity” between the U.S. and Canada box office.
That number does not factor in worldwide numbers. China is still expected to be a major contributor to the worldwide figure. Sonic is slated for a February 28th opening in the territory but that date will likely be bumped back due to ongoing efforts to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. In Japan, the film will debut late in March.
All of this is to say that the film is likely to make back its core budget, as well as its marketing dollars spent, but may not cross that critical threshold until the rest of the world sees the film.
I’m thinking that 200mill is what the film will do world wide, domestically I see it getting between 120 to 140 million.
