Sonic Mania Lego Ideas Campaign Hits 10,000 Supporters
A little over a year after the campaign launched on LEGO Ideas, the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set will go to the experts–and likely the licensors at Sega–for one final up or down vote to be put into mass production.
Creator Viv made it official Tuesday night: The 10,000 supporter threshold required for LEGO expert review was met.
But it is not a done deal just yet; LEGO or SEGA could just as easily reject the concept. The process will take several weeks. But if they don’t turn the idea away, it would be one of the most significant community breakthroughs since Taxman and Stealth teamed up to remaster classic Sonic titles for mobile–and eventually develop Sonic Mania for Sega.
The project crossed the 10,000 threshold on the same day Lego announced an upcoming Mario related partnership with Nintendo, on March 10–known to some gamers as MAR10 day.
We will continue to bring you any and all updates as warranted.
Its been a long time since I bothered with anything Lego (with a few expections, I did enjoy the Lego movie and its sequel) but if this somehow pulls through I hope it can lead to another Lego Sonic game in the same vein like that one in Lego Dimensions.
Speaking of Lego, that Mario/Nintendo partnership news was not surprising to me. It should have happen decades ago, I guess the reason it took this long was license issues and/or Nintendo being overprotactive of their IPs as always.
