Sonic Mania Adventures Surpasses 26 Million Views
So you may have seen this statistic that Sonic Mania composer Tee Lopes posted to Twitter on Tuesday. We, in fact, re-Tweeted it on our account.
Lopes isn’t wrong. That particular video, which compiles the entire Sonic Mania Adventures series, has logged a blockbuster 10.5 million views since its publication July 17th–including some 300,000 views in the last two days alone. On the official Sonic account, that’s only surpassed by a Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric commercial, logging 32.1 million views in about four years.
But that got us thinking: that’s only one video. Indeed, it’s the most complete way to watch the series. But it doesn’t include the views on the original releases. Include those numbers, and it tacks on approximately another 13.4 million views of the series, in whole or in part. Add to that the current view tally on the Sonic account on Twitter – another 1.6 million – and the numbers on Sonic’s official Facebook page, which are north of 800,000.
All those considered, the number of people who have enjoyed Sonic Mania Adventures so far is more than 26.3 million. In perspective, that’s more people than the current population of Australia. Perhaps a more relevant comparison: original sales of the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis capped off at just over 22 million worldwide.
If you haven’t seen the full video that compiles episodes 1 through 5, you can do that here.
