Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.
SEGA® UNVEILS LATEST CHAPTER IN SONIC BOOM™ FRANCHISE
SET TO RELEASE THIS HOLIDAYSonic Races To Nintendo 3DS™ In Sonic Boom™: Fire & Ice; SEGA also Announces Upcoming New Sonic The Hedgehog App
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – June 9th, 2015 – SEGA® of America Inc. announced today that its iconic ‘blue blur,’ Sonic the Hedgehog, will be racing once again in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for Nintendo 3DS. The newest title will build off of the highly successful animated series on Cartoon Network, currently the #1 program on all TV among boys 6-11 and 9-14 in its time period, and serve as the latest chapter in the Sonic Boom™ franchise. The game will introduce more adventure, speed, exploration, and an all-new fire and ice gameplay element that will help propel the action. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, featuring the triumphant return of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks, will be available exclusively on Nintendo 3DS later this year.
Developed by Sanzaru Games Inc., Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a single player game with collaborative gameplay components that shares key characters, events, and lore of the Sonic Boom universe. Players will see Sonic and his friends in familiar settings as they embark on a brand new adventure to battle Dr. Eggman as well as an all-new super villain, D-Fekt. The team’s adventures will bring them to locations both familiar and new as they explore, race and protect their world.
To create an entirely new experience, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will infuse fire and ice elements throughout gameplay, enabling new abilities to play out in special character moves and interactions with environments. The new title also delivers gameplay that enables players to run through the game at top speed, or take their time with deeper exploration and puzzle play.
New to the title is the introduction of Bot Racing, a supplemental game tied to the single player story with multiplayer gameplay. The new Bot Racing feature is an extension of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice that is purely about racing and speed, where a user will unlock character themed Bots to challenge friends on fast courses or tracks.
“We really want this game to surprise and delight Sonic fans both new and old, and have created a unique, fun game that delivers,” said John Cheng, President and COO, SEGA of America. “By introducing unique elemental gameplay features like ice and fire, along with new speed and exploration gameplay, there is a lot to enjoy with Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.”
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for Nintendo 3DS will run alongside the top rated animated series on Cartoon Network, in addition to a national merchandising and promotional campaign. The Sonic Boom television series, by SEGA of America Inc. and OuiDO! Productions will continue to air new episodes throughout the year – and beyond!
This summer, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will be supported with the launch of Sonic Central, a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog information app, arriving on both iOS and Android devices. This one-stop-shop for all things Sonic will give fans exclusive art and wallpapers, character information, clips from the animated series, concept art, and games. Sonic Pix, a unique function within the app, will inspire fans creativity by allowing them to include Sonic and his friends in their photos.
Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a video game character in June 1991, and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to video game consoles, Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 140 million video games sold or downloaded worldwide across consoles, PC’s, mobile phones and tablets. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for Nintendo 3DS will be available in stores throughout North America in Holiday 2015

WHAT? DAMN IT! I THOUGHT WE KILLED THE MONSTER ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Okay, in all seriousness, maturity, and not first reactions, this just looks like the same game again.
My thoughts from YouTube:
Shattered Crystal was fine on paper. I trust Sanzaru have learnt their lessons and are firing on all cylinders for this. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is their first “proper” game and why SC was so reduced (i.e. lacking in content and cutscenes) and lacking ties to the show and universe beyond needing Lyric.
Pretty telling that BRB is nowhere to be seen though.
Lost World was a glimmer of hope for Pontac and Graff, then SC happened. I miss the days Sonic stories were penned by random developers…
And hey, the models are looking much nicer!
Oh boy… just… oh boy…
If they could improve many things about Shatter Crystal and fix the bad aspect then this game should be fun. Here’s hoping for improvements. Also here’s hoping for Shadow to be playable.
DON’T HATE GET HYPE
I. FUCKING. REFUSE.
Hahahahahaha….. NO
I wish this wasn’t a Boom game but whatever, this works I guess
Welp here we go again. Let’s just hope Sanzaru learned from their mistakes from the last game and make this one at least better
TV licensed games guys. Just like a ton of other cartoons get. There’s nothing here to worry about either. Also, because it’s on the 3DS people will forget about it. They only remember the home console titles.
Let me know when there’s another main series title coming out.
…Alright. That was unexpected. As long as this isn’t the only Sonic game we’ll get this year, I’m ok with it.
Oh for god’s sake, kiss my ass Sega.
That’s it. I quit.
….I just threw up in mouth a little bit.
Today’s my birthday. First, I get no gifts, and.. this is released.
God help me.
Sorry dude… You should still try to make the best of it though…
“Happy Birthday, here’s the corpse of your favorite franchise! We put it in a clown suit, funny huh?”
I noticed that most of the gameplay items: dashpads, springs, checkpoints, etc., are in the Lost World form.
Are those new to Boom? or SC already had them?
All I care about is:
Monstercat music in a Sonic trailer? THAT WAS MY IDEA!!!
Wow. Aside from the reveal of Shadow the Hedgehog (the game), this is legitimately THE most surprised I’ve been by the announcement of a new Sonic game.
Some massive cojones on SEGA, I tells ya.
All things considered, setting aside any petty bitching over Sonic Boom’s continued existence, This is definitely a marked improvement over SC.
I’m sure they’ve learned from last time and considering SC was mediocre as hell, I’m sure this one will balance out to at least being better than mediocre.
You guys nee to stop being so bitchy. No shit Sonic Boom was going to get another game, the cartoon is a success. BRB’s head is on a spike now and Sanzaru Games was at least mediocre in their first outing, so I don’t know why you guys are so bent out of shape.
The shovelware keeps flowing, no matter what. We are not ramping down. We’re just getting started. Nothing stops this trainwreck……nothing.
Games must be easy to but that just speculation. To all Sonic boom fans, enjoy your game. I still want it to die but I respect your idea of fun.
I’m very surprised that they are making another Sonic Boom game after the failure of the first two, but I am cautiously optimistic about this. It looks like it could be like Sonic Rush with element specific routes (like the character specific routes in S3&K). The gameplay of Shattered Crystal never looked good in my opinion, but this looks decent.
Saying that, I heard so many bad things about the previous two Boom games that I decided to skip them entirely. They were the only sonic games that I have done that with besides Black Knight. (I bought Sonic 06 thinking it couldn’t be as bad as people say, and that is something that I regret!)
I do not want to dampen your cautious optimism, because I personally think that is a good attitude to have in life. However, if you have a 3DS, I would recommend you download the demo for the first Boom game. If you are a fan of the classic Sonic games you will walk away feeling sickened, if you are not a fan of the classics you will probably still find it mediocre. Sadly, just based on the first trailer they do not seem to have fixed any of the major issues with the first game.
Nope. Nope. Nope. Literally just looks like Shattered Crystal with Amy and a Fire/Ice Mechanic added. Meh. Not interested. Another crap game I’m gonna skip.
Wake me up when Sonic Team announces a new Sonic game for consoles and PC.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
Woah, Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games last week, Mega Man Legacy Collection yesterday, this game today. I wonder if this has anything to do with Worlds Unite. If so, then maybe a game featuring X is coming. Just a thought, might not happen.
“This summer, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will be supported with the launch of ” Runners right? Oh another slapped together information app that you’ll abandon after a month.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
….
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
SONIC TEAM, PLEASE, MAKE ANOTHER SONIC GAME FOR US, PLEASE. This make me cry. Seriously, THEY GETTING CRAZY? A poorly generic game once again. The only good thing is: IS ONLY FOR 3DS. But anyway, I just hate Sonic Boom series. DAMN, please Sonic, survive from this. I don’t understand why SEGA hate soooooooo much his blue hedgehog.
Wow, I’m sorry to any who disagree, but I’m actually kind of relieved to find out that they hadn’t had abandoned their gaming initiative. If a few comics or action figures get discontinued, that’s fine, but it’s always a shame when a video game series gets canned before it is even given the chance to be done right. It’s nice to see that they’re still experimenting, and considering it’s with a hand-held device I think that’s the safest way to do it right now, so long as they improve upon what had dragged down Shattered Crystal. It looks like there might be more pre-rendered scenes tho, so that’s a start. I still haven’t gotten Shattered Crystal yet, but I look forward to getting both that and this game! 😀
ALL OF MY WHY?!?!
Seriously, they were the worst selling Sonic games of all-time AND are unanimously considered garbage! This just doesn’t make ANY sense whatsoever!
All this money and effort could’ve been used to support more deserving causes, like a new non-Sonic SEGA game, better production staff for the cartoon or even a damn international ice-cream orgy – literally ANYTHING would be a better, safer investment than a follow-up on this dead-on-arrival sub-franchise!
Just why, SEGA? F***ing WHY?
Man I don’t want to kill peoples optimism for thinking this game is going to be an improvement from the last but I got a feeling it wont be. It doesn’t seem like there has been enough time between the titles for any true change. Also its not getting revealed at E3 that really shows that Sega doesn’t have much confidence in the game.
I’m not surprised. Clearly Sega has learned literally nothing from their most recent disaster. Call me when we get a MAIN TITLE Sonic game and not this Boom garbage.
And this, folks, is another title that won’t even break 200,000 copies sold. Hooray?? If you think I’m pulling that number out of nowhere, I will direct you to the sales data for Shattered Crystal.

Its a shame that more of Sega’s money is being thrown down the drain like this. Guess they still haven’t learned.
To the people who are feeling sour about this: Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Never give up!”? Well, that is what is going on here. SEGA hasn’t given up. Is that such a bad thing?
That’s what I’m talking about! Granted, I never played Sonic Boon Shattered Crystal, I played them demo and wasn’t getting into it, but this looks very promising! I’m definitely keeping my eye on it~! I wonder if they’ll use the Sonic amiibo for something..that’d be cool!
You people who watch the shitty show, this is YOUR fault. When this game comes out, and WHEN it’s shitty, accept responsibility.
Fire & Ice was the name of one of the last Spyro games before it died too.
Alright. I almost regret watching it now. XD
Going to be honest, I’m actually REALLY happy Sega isn’t leaving Boom behind. I mean, sure they’re not the best, but at least it doesn’t feel like this was just another abandoned experiment. It looks like they’re actually going through with this, which is great.
Now, if we get an announcement for a new main series game for consoles, I’ll be overjoyed.

kill me.
why SEGA, why?!
Where is your God now? Bwa ha ha ha.
Btw I hope this game has Amiibo support.
I’m pretty certain at this point SEGA does not want Sonic to die with dignity. That’s the only answer I have for such a garbage excuse of a move.
Here go Again!
let’s see: Sonic Boom Returns, Check. Random Hate Comments, Check. Exclusive, Check. New Sonic 2015, Check.
Bright it on!
“Gameplay looks like rivals or rush series…”
You take that back. The rest of your post is on point though.
A multi platform Sonic game for his 25th anniversary next year would make sense. A PC or full-fledged mobile game for Sonic would make sense. This really doesn’t. The sales and reviews were not that great for the last game. More importantly, the release time is too soon. If developers wanted to learn from their mistakes and make a brand new Boom game, I’d give it a chance. But if it’s coming out this winter, this game was planned with the others. Can’t expect much (especially after getting my hopes up for the first games.)
“What do you get when you mix Fire and Ice?”
……..
STEAM, THE TRUE ANSWER, would be my preference. Not a re-skin of Shattered Crystal lol
I’m not even going to pretend this time: I’m not interested in this
No, just no. I am NOT spending money on this piece of shit. What the fuck Sega, what the fuck.
Not really understanding the hatred honestly.
It doesn’t look fantastic but it looks like a fun time killer.
Why. The first games were total flops why would you make a third? If your going to make a new sonic then fine, just please not in the sonic boom franchise…
