Sega Presser Reveals More Lost World Details
There is one last bit of business to cover from Sega’s end of today’s Sonic Lost World blast, as far as we are aware. In addition to the Sega blog post, the company also issued a formal press release on its main page detailing in precise detail what to expect from the next Sonic.
We’ve relayed the release in full below. Highlights include a gadget building mode for both Wii U and 3DS, where players can share their creations across both devices. Those gadgets can then be picked up by a second player and used to destroy enemies while the first player takes control of Sonic. This sounds fairly similar to how Star Bits work in Super Mario Galaxy, where a second player shoots the bits at the screen to get enemies out of Mario’s way.
Miiverse integration will also be included for the Wii U version, and multiplayer races will be included, not quite unlike Sonic Colors, though plans beyond the form and function of the Sonic Simulator appear planned. The release also touts new Wisp / Color powers.
Take a look and offer your thoughts in the comments. There’s still more to come from our Sonic Lost World coverage today, including first impressions and community reaction.

Been awhile since we last saw Sonic and Eggman team up against a common enemy.
Man, I really miss the Genesis days right now.
No emeralds in the main version?
They might be integrated into the plot, or won through versus mode. The presence of special stages in the 3DS version only makes me a bit worried that Dimps is making it.
“Sonic can fly through the air” = Green Hover
“Tear up levels” = Yellow Drill
“Explode into enemies” = Red Burst
Those are powers we’ve seen before.
Red Burst doesn’t explode into enemies. Sonic just…explodes, I guess…and gets a boost of air
Nothing about exploding INTO enemies
Hey, he can still do that if you bring Sonic into an enemy as he explodes. But yeah, I really wasn’t sure about what “explodes into enemies” could mean.
The other sources I’ve seen call the Color Powers “improved”, not new. There may be new powers, but the Cyan Wisp showed up in the trailer (0:50), and assuming you’re right, we’ve got 4 confirmed Color Powers.
@Ophelia – Since when does hovering = flying?
Your logic is invalid. 🙂
So if this game have competitive multiplayer then I hope the other playable character(s) aren’t recolored Sonic models, but instead other similar characters like Metal Sonic or Shadow, or hell even Tails and Knuckles! (To the hell with character types).
Thay may be true, but what if other characters jack up the game even more?
err… define jack up.
Crappy moves
Bad voice actors
Terrible animation
Too many negative variables
@ultimaterocketraccoon
Well, that depends on Sonic Team, if they’re going to do something they better do it good, but I think different moves and animations would be way too much extra work for the multiplayer, they should stick with Sonic’s gameplay and multiplayer and the only differences should be their 3D model and voice acting.
In the last sentence I meant animation instead of multiplayer.
List of characters that would be perfect.
Tails
Knuckles
Shadow
Blaze
Espio
Metal Sonic
Just put them in the multiplayer mode and I’ll be happy.
Sonic and Eggman are teaming up? When was the last time they did such a thing?
OH SHIT – 06!!
You caught me at online multiplayer Tristan, that’s an immediate selling factor right there. We literally have had nothing like this since SA2, and no, the game world in Colors doesn’t count since its not actual racing.
I hope the multiplayer levels are different design wise because then when you first play, it’ll be a new experience from the story levels.
I just wonder where Yacker and the Wisps are coming from, why be on the Lost Hex of all places and what’s the story behind it, because right now it seems like the Lost Hex is a world for flickies.
Wisps may be coming back, but Yacker probably isn’t. Just a guess, but they never mentioned him either.
But Yacker is a good character.
But he’s like the ambassador or like the leader of the Wisps, bringing them back but not Yacker seems like an incredibly stupid move story wise.
“Spindash is BACK!”
= sold! Thank you SEGA!
Spindash? I didn’t know that was coming back. Guess I was so busy making comments I didn’t read that part.
@Dantesparda
You may have a point, but worse has happened before. (cough) voice actor change (cough)
Are idiots still on about this? REALLY?!
Idiots?! It’s just a bad game is all.
Well, so far I like every new voice actor of the Sonic games with the notable exception of the new Amy voice, I don’t think they’re going to change them again anytime soon, but if they do I hope is just Amy’s VA.
What about Tails? Why does a girl always have to play him? What did he do to lose his manhood?!
The problem was that his Adventure voice actor hit manhood. His voice got too deep. There are way more girl voice actors (actresses?) out there than pre-puberty male voice actors, and the latter can’t be used for more than around 4 years.
I don’t understand the complaints, to be honest. I think most of the current voices are perfect, especially Sonic and Tails. Although I think Amy and Shadow could be better with a bit of work.
@Ultimate – Tails has ALWAYS been voiced by women.
Get out of here troll.
I know that. But I want to know why
Because Tails it’s supposed to sound like a young boy (of 8 – 10 years old), so they hire grown women that can sound like a young boy (because young voice actors mostly work only on movies because they go to school).
Not always. Only in the cartoons, Sonic Heroes, 06 and onwards
Thanks for clearing that up, guys. Rocket out!
I wonder if Wisps will become a staple in future Sonic titles, like grinding.
Deadly 6 equals six zones. Six zones, max of 4 acts, (and that’s hopefully) 10 min or less each… this game is going to be even shorter than colors. Not worth a purchase. This could have the greatest gameplay ever but if it doesn’t last more than a day or two (which I guarantee it won’t) then it isn’t worth anything. Sonic 06′ lasted. Heroes, unleashed, all lengthy sonic games. And while the main stream hates, these are some which I consider the best. No length, no product.
While I’ll give you the 6 zone argument, nothing has said, or even suggested a maximum of 4 acts. We know there are at least 2 acts per zone plus a boss, and Colors has 6 acts plus a boss, so the actual level count is up in the air. Also, you haven’t factored in replay value and difficulty, so we can’t estimate how long this game will take to make.
The classic act structure has been out the window since… the classic era. There are going to be 7 zones (because you know there will be a final one, which is admittedly too few, but I guarantee each one will have probably as many acts as Colors did.
I do hope the game is lengthy, I’ll give you that. I beat Generations in under 10 hours, and completed every optional mission in under 20. That being said, I’ve played Sonic colors for over 50 hours just on my initial playthrough and I still go back to it for the hell of it, so length isn’t really as important as replay value.
Sounds like this game really was built for Wii U. That does alleviate some worries then, since they intend to use the Wii U’s capabilities to the max.
Graphically the game looks lacking, because nintendo systems cannot handle higher graphics. However it looks like it may make it up gameplay wise, I can’t even say anything about the music yet.
@Darkgomugomu – Seeing all the different features SEGA is able to bring across 2 platforms, I’m glad with this exclusivity.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a Sonic game with more features than this (and no, padding doesn’t count).
@Red – I can beat Sonic Generations in one day. MANY games can be beaten in one day. You listed Heroes and 06 as your arguments, which are horrible. Heroes should have just been Team Sonic. All the other teams were just padding to make the game longer, and same goes for Shadow and Silver in 06 (despite their different stories).
