UPDATE 2: Sega Confirms 2nd Sonic Generations Demo
This morning, Sega Europe made official news that broke over the weekend from France, which claimed a second demo for Sonic Generations would hit XBOX Live and PSN this week.
At this point, we only know what we know from the press release, and that only states European gamers will see modern Green Hill Zone drop this Wednesdaytomorrow now according to a late Sega blog update. UPDATE: The same October 18th release date will hold true for XBOX Live users only in North America. According to the Sega blog, PSN users have to wait until next week, October 25th.
You’ll note the press release reiterates a release timetable of November for the 3DS version, quelling rumors of a delay to 2012 that broke Friday.
LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (October 17, 2011) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. & SEGA® America, Inc., today confirmed that a second demo is being released prior to the launch of the highly anticipated Sonic Generations™ game for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
The first demo, released on June 23rd 2011 – the anniversary of Sonic’s 20th year – allowed fans to play as Classic Sonic only. Now the second demo means fans can finally play as Modern Sonic – as well as Classic Sonic again – in the stunning environments of the iconic Green Hill level from Sonic Generations™. Demo #2 for the game will be available via XBLA and PSN on 19th October for Europe.
Gamers will be able to get their hands on the full game on the 4th November when Sonic Generations™ finally hits stores for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC digital download. Sonic Generations™ PC boxed product and the Nintendo 3DS™ system will be released later in November 2011.
Is this gonna be a timed demo? THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME! I can’t wait for a demo, wow..
19th for America as well?
Mr Smith — until someone at Sega of America clarifies, I don’t want to act like it’s coming out Wednesday in the US as well, because if you read the presser closely, it doesn’t actually say anything for this side of the Atlantic.

Regardless, you can use a European PSN account (they’re free to make, ps3 isn’t region locked) you just made to download the demo from the European PlayStation Store late Tuesday night if you live in the US.
I’m excited. I won’t expect it to be improved over the stuff we saw earlier this year. I hope my expectations are wrong, but we’ll see soon.
Also interesting how this article seems to deny rumors of Generation 3DS being delayed till 2012. I really hope it’s sometime this November for US as well.
I’m just going to go outside and shout “yes” at the top of my voice.
I bet Eggman is right. This is probably just the other half of the ollllllllld demo from Sonic Boom/SoS.
@ChaoticFox – Well, we won’t know till we try it out, now won’t won’t we?
So modern Green Hill’s been confirmed, just the same old demo from June/July.
Better than nothing, I suppose.
Fine.
No spoiler aka new level in demo.
I don’t want more demos or video. I wait my ps3 and steam version of generations =)
…I hope I don’t need a Gold membership… -.-
Great timing. I just got myself a new 360.
-TANTRUM- BUT I DONT WANNA WAIT UNTIL THE TWENTY FIIIIIIFFTTTTHHHHHHHH
man this stinks. I got excited for Wednesday xD BUT OH WELL, I’LL just have to figure out XBOX Live or deal with it.
*squees* Yay, modern Green Hill! *eagerly awaits the 25th* 83

Aww, not Rooftop Run?
WHY THE 25TH? WHY.
Yay!! Nice to know it’ll be modern green hill zone, though I don’t know where I heard is was gonna be modern city escape. Oh well, can’t wait <3
@darkgomugomu
Calm down man xD
You only need create europe ACC and download =)
Its seriously funny how other PSN users are freaking out when you can just make a euro account, I made one ages ago.
@Lucas Hinz
…You know what? I will do that. Fuck off SEGA, there’s no reason that NA ps3 users are limited while 360 isnt
If everyone seeks to Sonic Generations Demo 2 files: Hopefully they can found City Escape Classic & Modern Stages, and have Classic and Modern City Escape music, and other Sonic Generations music too.
I hope Sonic Retro rips this demo apart. More things could have been added if this is a new build.
Yes! *captain falcon voice*
When Sonic Retro rips second demo, I wonder hear Modern City Escape music so badly!
Why play the demo when the game comes out like a week and a half later?
@Ryan If SEGA leaves it in.
I kind of got the feeling the first demo back in July was one of those market test demos, as Megaman Legends 3’s prototype demo was intended to be. I wonder: If too few people had downloaded it, would they have axed Generations in a manner similar to MML3?
Really, that demo was never released and MML3 was actually canned due to the abysmal 3DS sales, coupled with the fact that Megaman has been a weak IP lately, but for whatever reason, they first blamed it on the fans for not participating enough in “The Dev Room” portion of the MML3 forum.
Anyways, it’s a shame us PC gamers don’t get a demo. Luckily we sometimes get the full version of the game a few days before everyone else though. Wink-wink…
I’m kidding. I’m buying it on Steam, where I buy all my games these days, though some truth does ring in the joke. 😛
3DS Late November.
@HawkleyFox
Sonic Generations has been in development and planning way before MML3 became a whim in Inafkings mind.
MML3 is dead, deal with it.
I can wait. Batman comes out tommarow that game will have me busy for a while…I can wait.
How the fuck does MML3 even get mentioned here?
Haru: Fun fact–there actually were MML3 protestors at the Archie panel Sunday.
-T
I wonder Classic and Modern City Escape is hidden in second demo so I can heard two Modern & Classic City Escape music.
People are STILL protesting about that game??? Wow…
Modern Sonic demo? On the 25th? Do want.
@Renzy
Well, it IS a gunshot to the balls of the fans.
Scratch that, I meant the 19th. Sorry, PSN users~
!!!!Can’t wait for it!!!!
I hope no one hacks the demo this time, I think we can wait for a few more days for the game to come out.Let’s show sega/sonicteam we can wait. 🙂
SEGA got problems look:
Gamers will be able to get their hands on the full game on the 4th November when Sonic Generations™ finally hits stores for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC digital download. Sonic Generations™ PC boxed product and the Nintendo 3DS™ system will be released later in November 2011.
No more November 1st, now move to Nov 4th? SEGA? This could be error. Nov 1st is REAL release date not Nov 4th. Stupid SEGA.
@Hawkley
First of all, the Sonic and Megaman licenses are in two entirely different ballparks. The MML3 “beta” wasn’t just an issue of people downloading a demo. You had to pay for it. It was an incentive program for Capcom.
In short, no. No there was no possibility of them cancelling Generations if nobody downloaded the free demo. Which never would have happened anyway because it was a demo and it was free.
@Ryan
It’s November 4th in Europe. Stupid Ryan.
x@
sorry, x. I’m bad as Micheal Jackson. Ooohhh! *do Thriller for Halloween*
Yo Tristan, SEGA has updated their blog. The Demo’s coming out tomorrow, Oct. 18th.
http://blogs.sega.com/2011/10/17/second-sonic-generations-demo-incoming/#more-10390
The PSN release is still Oct. 25th in North America, though.
@Stephan well that’s true, but I just think that all of that protesting and petitions are just gonna fall on Deaf ears. Ppl are even beggin Capcom to put Megaman in Ultimate marvel vs capcom 3.
Sweet. I got a new (actually used) 360 recently. Can’t wait to play what’s hopefully a newer build of Green Hill Zone for classic and modern without the PS3’s input lag.
@HawkleyFox if you got some talented people together you could make MML3 a reality.
It would take a while though.
@krazeeKidd102 apparently the input lag has been fixed on the ps3 version, so both versions are identical.
THIS is why I own a 360 instead of ps2.
Tomorrow? I wish it was on Wednesday…I have an early dismissal that day…=/
Also, does anyone know what time the XBL Marketplace updates in the US?
WTF? everyone is just confusing the psn release….
is EUR getting the PS3 demo today or not
EU PSN and US Xbox live users, get it the 18th
Damn, no PC demo! BALLSACKS, SEGA!!!
“EU PSN and US Xbox live users, get it the 18th”
No.
PSN Europe update only wednesday, day 19
actually SEGA tweeted both demos will be released today, but i got a 360 too so its a win both ways, but i wanna play the ps3 demo more for some reason
Yay!
@HeatPhoenix
Thank you for your dispassionate response to my comment.
@Everyone else, you’re all probably right. There probably are no parallels to be drawn between the two games. It is just not at all common for a game to have a demo before it even has a release date; Made me raise an eyebrow. Please excuse my silly conspiracy theory.
And regarding MML3, since I seemed to kick up a little discussion on it: It was unfortunate how Capcom handled things, especially after garnering so much fan support for the game. There is no shortage of developers who would love to see it continued, though. Inafune himself and CyberConnect2 both showed interest in continuing the game. In the end though, Capcom would be the one to publish it, and they had to ask themselves: Would a sequel to a niche title from a relatively unsuccessful spin-off franchise, released on the floundering 3DS, be profitable for them to publish?
It appears they said “no”.
its odd its the 19 i have a ps3 and im in europe and its not on psn someone help me
PSN working yet?
