Official Sonic Tumblr: “ALL WILL BE REVEALED”
The Sonic 25th party in San Diego is 5 days away, but the official Sonic Tumblr page put up a post two days prior with hashtags that were very interesting. It is perhaps among the last teasers we’ll get before the event on Friday, but according to the hashtags, we’ll be getting “other treats and goodies” throughout the week.
\#One week to go #You’ve mostly all been super patient #but the day is soon upon us #then… ALL WILL BE REVEALED #we hope you read that with thunderbolts and organs playing #but seriously–we’re so excited to share with you what’s to come #next week alone is going to be a fun one #we’ll be announcing where you can watch the live stream of the party #and a few other treats and goodies

I’m pumped.
If isn’t a Sonic Adventure 3, can be a Sonic game like the adventures one (I hope). OR CAN BE 2 GAMES. But I don’t know.
You mean, if it isn’t CALLED “Sonic Adventure 3”.
A Sonic game that’s a true spirit sequel to Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, as opposed to a 3D Sonic game that jumps the shark with gameplay gimmicks and an overly serious or dense plot.
Even if SEGA can’t call it that title, I think we all know what we want in a sequel to Sonic Adventure 2. No pandering o the 2.5D crowd (outside of handhelds and digital titles), no boost-to-win, no controlling a team, no guns, no werehog, no swords, no wisps, no parkour, no Pontac & Graff writing. Just pure 3D speed and platforming goodness. Let us run from killer whales and G.U.N. trucks again, raise chao in our leisure time, play as other characters, etc.
I think he means if it isn’t Sonic Adventure 3…. which would probably imply it’s also not called Sonic Adventure 3, then he’s hoping for a game that’s at least in an Adventure-esque style, sequel or spiritual sequel or just a similar styled game.
So what you’re saying is no anything new that was different and just do what they did already in SA1 and 2 but… again. ….Well we already ran from a truck again. And a whale again. In 06 and Generations. They’re gonna have to do something new. Even SA2 and SA1 weren’t identical.
As long as they don’t fix what isn’t broken or cut out the good stuff (except they already did, now they just need to bring it all back).
Ehhhhhh… if they don’t blow me away with this supposed new game reveal (which I highly doubt they will), I’m probably gonna skip whatever this is. Either way, I’m keeping my expectations somewhere around ‘low’ to outright ‘nonexistent’. I’m just getting burned out and tired of Sonic nowadays. Most of the Sonic games we’ve gotten in the past 6 years have just been so dull and boring to me.
Oh well, the Yakuza series is doing a pretty good job at filling the void though.
Dude, everytime you write something it’s something negative, if you’re so burned out then just leave, why are you here? Don’t just stay to compain, we don’t need people like you TBH
1. He wasn’t really that negative.
2. To be fair, he’s allowed to comment just as much as we are.
As a longtime consumer of the Sonic brand, if I feel that something is not satisfactory, then as a customer, I have a right to complain. You don’t like seeing negativity? Don’t read comments. People are going to disagree with you. Deal with it.
Tomoki, please disregard what Dave said.
And Dave, I catch your drift, but Tomoki is just expressing how he feels. He’s not hurting anyone or trying to bring anybody down so just leave him be. The last thing I think we want is people leaving this fan base which has already seen enough people leave at this point. The state of Sonic has been an absolute roller coaster the passed several years. It’s more than understandable why Tomoki feels the way he does. If we just go and tell people to leave the fan base when they have a negative opinion, there would be no one left.
How does Yakuza fill the void of a blue hedgehog and his fast-speed platform adventures?
He has a beloved game that is no longer beloved. He has a void of HAVING one to play, now another game fills that void. boom.
Then YOU go play that game. Leave the rest of us to want Sonic (or a worthy equivalent of).
@AManFromDaClan: Not sure if that last comment was directed at me or not, but I DO want a good Sonic game, don’t get me wrong. I just found that there are other games that can take up my time while I wait for this announcement, and have another series to fall back on if the next game doesn’t catch my interest. I’m not forcing Yakuza onto anyone, but I just wanted to get it out there in hopes it would get more support here in the West, so SEGA will localize more games.
maybe he was referring to “high quality Sega games”, a category that doesn’t belong anymore to Sonic.
Pretty much what Axx said. The Yakuza series, while it’s not a speedy platformer series like Sonic, it has a very ‘Adventure-like’ feel to it in some ways. It has a big hub you can explore and talk to NPCs, do side-quests, and has mini-games. It also has a character-driven storyline, boss battles start with a title drop of the boss character’s name, the OST is varied, but has a lot of rock music as well.
Yakuza 4, 5, and 0 have multiple stories revolving around different characters that all tie together for the grand finale against the final boss just like the Adventure games, Heroes, 06, etc. The Yakuza series also really reminds me of SEGA games from the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast days; its gameplay kinda reminds me of games like Streets of Rage, Virtua Fighter, and Shenmue.
Unlike Sonic games, however, the series is consistent in quality, gameplay, and tone. It never forgets what it wants to be, and it allows itself to grow with its audience instead of trying to re-invent the wheel and start over with every game. While the stories in the Yakuza game are overall serious, it always finds a way to make room for slice of life moments and comedy to take a break from the serious events in-between without comprising the characters’ personalities and the overall story for the sake of a joke.
It’s a really underrated series, and I recommend people giving it a go, if they are able to.
Now that, I don’t know. Have you ever played Yakuza? Because I have not.
@Kabam: I’ve played the Yakuza series. The games are actually really fun if you like open world beat ’em ups / brawlers, and they are filled to the brim with loads of content. Unlike many games you see today, Yakuza series has all games released in complete package, instead of making you have to pay for an unfinished product and then urging players to buy DLC to get the complete experience later. It really is an underrated gem in SEGA’s vast library of games.
This video is very informative about what the Yakuza series has to offer, though it is quite lengthy:
That’s not what he’s saying he never said that sonic games for the past 6 years have been any thin but perfect he was asking a simple question its not his falt you can’t accept that some people like those games. We all know that sonic games in the past haven’t been grate where not all “pathetic no-life fanboys who think every sonic game is god’s perfect gift” but we ARE all different and like different things ESPECIALLY when it comes to sonic,
so don’t make it seem like your “Mr. wright” ok. its like I always say “Not every game can loved by everyone but almost all games can be loved by someone” also if what you say is true then you would have left the fan-base 3 years ago and yet your still here why because of that “molecule of hope”? oh please that would have been gone the moment sonic 06 was released
And let’s say hypothetically that your wrong and game turn out to be a complete success, what then hmm…?
Or maybe I’m wrong and it becomes the final nail in the coffin, at least I’ll accept it.
I don’t think anyone here wants the series to fail, we just want to see it improve, but apparently that’s a problem for some people. If the game is a success, then great! Good for SEGA. If not, welp, then that’s enough Sanic for me, at least for a while. I’m frustrated with the current state of the series, and I’m sticking around just a little longer just to see what’s left in store. It IS the 25th anniversary, after all. Might as well give it one last chance. If I don’t like what I see, then I’ll be gone. Simple as that. No drama, no crying, none of that. I’ll quietly bow out and accept that Sonic just isn’t for folks like me anymore, and it’s for a different generation. I’m sticking around just a liiiiiiiiiiittle longer so I can get some closure, because deep down I still somewhat care about this series, since something I grew up with. So have some patience and put up with me a little longer, okay? It’s only about 4 more days til the supposed ‘big reveal’ anyway.
If you like epicness with eye candy and have a PS4, I’d highly recommend getting Yakuza 0 when it heads to the west in English next year.
It better be worth the long seven month wait!
*cough* the anniversary started on June 23rd not January 1st.
*cough* Aaron started the teasing crap last October and 90% of it were leading to dead ends *cough* I mean “””jokes”””. 😀
I mean… I think what it is is that the 25th year of Sonic is between June 23rd, 2016 and June 23rd, 2017, but like…. 2016 is the calendar year the anniversary day itself takes place in… so you can kinda cheat and have the anniversary discussion and celebration be throughout all of 2016 but you could also say the year is between the two dates, like how Sonic Riders had the 15th anniversary seal despite being in February and 06 had the seal despite being months after the actual anniversary date. Generations was an anniversary title also halfway through the actual anniversary year and at the end of the anniversary calendar year. So I mean doing it a few months later, in 2017, wouldn’t be too crazy.
Also the party is in 4 days so I mean… wasn’t Colors revealed in the Summer? Or was that just me finding out late? I swear I found out about Sonic Colors shortly before the trailer and then we found out about the voice actor thing… or vice versa… and then the game had like bits of info here and there until the game released just a few months later.
He said more news on the anniversary would come about early in 2016, which it did. And thta wasn’t even teasing. He just said when we’d hear more info. And how did 90% of it lead to dead ends? Every single thing he teased happened. Just because it isn’t a new Sonic game doesn’t automatically make things “dead ends”.
Have you even read anything he’s said in interviews in the last few months?
Since Sonic is in Lego Dimensions, he seriously needs to ask Doctor Who if the fans are allowed to “borrow” his Tardis so we can travel through time skipping all the way until Friday!
Honestly? I hope they announce the game for a late 2017 release so they can have enough time to add a Chao Garden. Especially after Aaron brought it up in March.
Alright, this is it people, the moment that practically decideds the fate of Sonic is closer than ever before. This could very well make or break whatever reputation Sonic has left.
I, for one, are cautiously intriguid about what they’re gonna be showing. And I suggest you all also go in with a fairly cautious but open mindset, since let’s face it, whatever they have brewing up in the labs is most likely radically different from what any of us have in mind, for better or worse.
Idk dude. What if this one sucks but the NEXT one is fucking groundbreaking???
@Axx: If this one sucks, but the next one by some miracle is ground-breaking, then I imagine he’d find out about it one way or another and might be willing to give it a go; but that all depends on what he would personally find ‘ground-breaking’. The likelihood of that however, is slim. ‘What ifs’ don’t matter; what matters is the here and now.
Brace for impact folks, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
It matters in my question. It matters to me. Hence the reason for asking it. I never said it stopped mattering so… it didn’t. lol
Anyhoo, my question was in regards to stating this could make or break Sonic’s reputation. I mean, why would this be the one? Why not the next one? Why not the last one? What if he makes a great game next time and then suddenly every time after than and is suddenly seen as an amazing series again? I mean… I don’t think THIS is the one. lol It could be, but Sonic’s not really that far gone yet. He was worse off after 06. I guess it’s cuz he’s so old now?
I don’t think any Sonic game will ever destroy the franchise at this point. It’s been around so long, that I think a decent amount of folks will stick with it for a while. However, I feel that the main reason Sonic’s been able to thrive over the past 15 years isn’t because of the sales of the games themselves, but because of the merchandising. In recent years especially, SEGA has been seriously pushing the Sonic franchise more as a product brand, rather than a video game series. Toys and merchandise are basically what will keep this series alive for years to come, regardless of how good or bad the games are. If anything, the games are basically toy commercials at this point.
What’s really hinging on this next game however, is a chunk of its fanbase. Some folks may not care how bad the games get and will stick with it to the end, but a lot of folks like myself are just kinda on the fence over the series right now. A lot of people are going to leave the fandom and drop the series, but in the end, Sonic will still be around doing whatever for years to come, regardless.
We’re hoping that this next game will be the game to show us an idea as to where the series is truly heading, and not more random ‘let’s just toss everything out and start over again’ nonsense.
That’s just how I see things, personally, anyway.
And then some of us DO care if it’s bad just we acknowledge that any title can be good or bad like any other product coming out and just buy it if it’s interesting or skip if not. That and some of us care if it’s bad but have a different idea of what’s considered bad. Like most Sonic games I play don’t really stand out as bad compared to most other games I play so… I have no idea what the determining factor for some people is. :p
Either way, that’s an interesting theory about the toys. Modern Sonix does look more like he’s designed to be a toy than Classic and Adventure Sonics were.
Woohoo! It’s like waiting for Christmas!
Only five days left….
Huh, that’s nice I guess. Call me when news finally shows up, I’ll just be playing Tekken.
Sticking to low expectations and if the new game appears to be good hopefully I don’t have to buy a NX/X1/PS4 or upgrade to win10 because that isn’t happening.
Here’s hoping that it’s not a Nintendo exclusive.
Here’s hoping we actually GET ours on the Wii U or NX, without shelling out for another system ($200-$300).
The comment said here’s to hoping it’s not Nintendo EXCLUSIVE. So I guess ditto.
Lol
Good times.
Please be good, please be good, please be good…
I’m kind of keeping my expectations low for now. Right now, I’m expecting a 2D solo-Sonic classic-style game starring Tails and Eggman (maybe with Knuckles and Amy having a very small part), with no original levels, a Pontaff story, with a Mario-esque style like Lost World’s environments and music had. That’s it. I don’t expect vocal tracks, multiple characters, new levels, or Adventure gameplay.
Knowing SEGA, they’d probably make another game like the one I’m expecting. It just sucks because having Boom around, I would want an Adventure-esque game. Not more “Baldy McNosehair,” or whatever jokes they pull out of their butts. I’m also tired of just speeding through levels without any exploration, replay value, or any of that. The games are way too short nowadays, and it feels like a waste of money to buy a $60 game, and then finish it in the next day, or even in the next hour.
Honestly, who knows what will be revealed? Colors and the games after that were pretty much disappointments to me. Yeah, sure, they got Sonic’s speed right, but they don’t have the exploration and replay value to make the games as fun to me.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I heard that they plan to use the wisps, which seem to be a replacement for the characters we know and love, in every game now? If this is true, it really ticks me off, because I grew up with the other characters. Not just Sonic. The problem with the other characters is just how they do the gameplay styles. Almost nobody buys a Sonic game to treasure hunt, to fish, to play as mechs, or any other style they come up with. They either play for speed, for exploration, or for both. This is why all the other characters were starting to get hated, and started to be considered to be too many. 06 had nine characters that didn’t play all the same. If I remember correctly, Shadow was fast, but had vehicles, Silver was slow, Amy was sneaky, E-123 shot things, Rouge had treasure hunting, etc. And they were all in mid-level, which gives people who dislike those styles no reason to replay the game.
Sorry for my long rant. All I’m really hoping for at the moment is a good game, with good story, and multiple characters. If SEGA can’t do at least the good gameplay part, then I don’t know if I’ll be able to trust SEGA with another Sonic game. If they can’t get the story back on track at least a little bit, then I think that they should just kill Boom off. There would be no point in its existence if this next game is another kiddy comedy like Colors.
Well… that’s all I really have to say. Whatever this next game will be, I hope for the best.
Yeah I’m cautiously optimistic. Also I’m actually pretty impressed with the fact that whatever they’ve been working on behind the scenes hasn’t been leaked yet. But yeah I have faith that SEGA can make a decent Sonic game if they just put the time and effort into it, and hopefully that’s what they’re doing with the current game. I wouldnt be surprised if they go back to a more realistic look considering the live-action movie is currently in the works…or maybe it’s just my own wishful thinking haha. I just wasn’t a huge fan of Lost World’s overly cartoony level design that looked more like something that belonged in a Mario game. Plus the new gen systems can definitely benefit from having those gorgeous realistically rendered backgrounds. Either way I’m pretty excited to see what they have to show us. 🙂
AMANFROMDECLAN & TOMOKI
I share your views exactly. Really hoping for a return to 3d pure action platforming, progressive story and no gimmicks or car racing mechanics.
Id love for Sonic Team to really push the envelope with their action sequences and atmosphere.
I wanna chase eggman’s airship through a forest while rolling down hills, running through mud and over rocks, in the middle of a thunderstorm with heavy wind.
I wanna play as knuckles and race sonic for a choas emerald while gliding between erupting volcanos, mountain tops and moving clouds.
I want world locations to have a natural progression and clearly relate to the story.
Although we’ll probably just get 2.5d random mario inspired random ass blocky levels, with sega game gear sonic physics and “3d” almost on-rails QTE ice skating along narrow corridors.
Coupled with fart jokes and teletubby villians looking to steal all the world’s icecream.
“I wanna chase eggman’s airship through a forest while rolling down hills, running through mud and over rocks, in the middle of a thunderstorm with heavy wind.”
That’s awfully specific.
I think it sounds cool to be honest.
It is but if you’re setting the bar that high, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment. I expect good quality, yes, but perfect? That’s just not possible.
Well the only thing he did was to define a nice example of an action heavy situation. Does THAT count as a “flawless expectation” in your book? I wonder…what are your expectations regarding this game?
The use of English sentences without grammar errors?
Has motobugs in it, also rings as well?
Blue thing in shoes?
Areas with water in them… Also levels…
Music in the background, also…sound effects…
A minimum size of 2 gigabytes…
At least one edgy joke in every third cutscene…
Floating sweets in a random void, because recent Sonic games are using those…
#eggmanlikescheetosandwent2fast
“Well the only thing he did was to define a nice example of an action heavy situation.” with an exact setting, exact actions he can perform, and an exact objective. I’d say it’s pretty specific. I didn’t even say it was bad. It’s awfully specific, but as I said to another user, it does sound cool too. If you’re setting the bar that high, I just think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment is all.
My expectations regarding this game? That it’s good. It needs to be good. How it would be good is simply too up for debate.
It won’t be nintendo exclusive that deal ended with Boom if I recall.
Hopefully this will be amazing please be amazing.
Hope it’s not a nitnendo exclusive, hope it’s a real 3D Sonic game on PS4 without compromises, no stupid gimmicks, no storybook, no wisps, no iiuka, just give us a real Sonic game, something like Sonic Adventure 3 but free roam.
Iizuka was the director of the Sonic Adventure games and probably one of the few wiling to cling to SA on the dev side of Sega right now, throw him out and you’ll start seeing a even deeper purge of SA’s elements from the series.
If it’s Sonic Adventure 3, my head will explode! I mean why else will they purposely tease/troll us with Big’s Adventure 3? That’s like missed up, it’s like showing a kid candy and not giving it to him because you’re being a d**k
WEll to be fair, they were trolling us with Big but not really teasing an Adventure series title all that much. We’ve got what could be taken as hints for an Adventure series related thing, be it a remaster/remake, sequel, similar type of games or something along those lines, as hints for a Generations 2 kinda thing with 3 Sonics, a Sonic movie tie-in game, or just a new game not related to anything that they seem to think will be really good.
LAFFO if you think their PR is your friend and telling truths, their job is to string you along and get attention for their brand not to be truthful. Webber made a name for himself by the false bullshit he said about Sonic 4 you think people would learn their lesson but nope.
What “false bs”? What are you even talking about?
I think he’s talking about the PR disaster that happened with Sonic 4 Episode I back in 2010. IIRC, Aaron Webber and Ken Balough over-hyped the game when it was announced, and later made some rather shallow promises about tweaking the game after the 360 version got leaked months early on Partner.NET, and the final build didn’t fix the biggest problem many fans had with the game: the physics and automated level design.
…The backlash from that is probably part of why SEGA has been so quiet about the next main entry in the series so far. Not trying to defend what he’s saying, just trying to clarify things.
Oh. I highly doubt SEGA’s PR would be like that nowadays.
Well first of all, idk what anything I said would have to do with lying. Someone is saying to not trust him because he lies about something bad being good so now I should suspect he’s lying about something good not happening??? I don’t get it.
Actually, if I recall, they received criticism and then changed a lot about Sonic 4, with positive response, before release. And when it first came out it was very well received. They probably over hyped it cuz it was retro. Well I liked the game and thought the physics gave more control but didn’t like how slow he was. So it’s hard for me to relate.
Even so, that’s not really a lie. Lying wouldn’t help anyway as eventually no one would believe you.
Yeah, that doesn’t sound like lying. It just sounds like normal PR practices, which SEGA was doing a lot of at the time.
Holy moly. I just read through nearly all these comments and it’s clear that a heck of a lot rides on what happens on July 22nd… … …
My birthday! 😀
Happy early birthday!

I have no idea what to expect. I want to type something about what to anticipate but i can’t think of anything at all! I’m excited and scared and confused and i think i’m gonna pee myself a little on friday!
