Music For “Stage Select” In Sonic Mania Uploaded
A brand new track has been uploaded to YouTube from Sonic Mania’s OST, one that comes from the extended gameplay videos that have come from this weekend’s PAX West convention. It also confirms the return a familiar feature from past Sonic games: a level select.
We don’t know how the level select will be done in the game, if it will be a world map similar to Sonic Lost World or a list similar to Sonic 4. However, we know there is one. And not only is there one, but we know the music that will be playing, which you can hear below.

Getting a mix of CD and Saturn vibes with this one. Speaking of Saturn, imagine if we got a Sonic R-eseque theme for the opening or ending?
I’d even love something on the level of “Cosmic Eternity – Believe in Yourself”
I can’t explain how stunned I am with everything about this game. It’s really like it was a true title that came out on the Saturn after Sonic CD. Just perfect. Never thought I’d see this day.
I’m loving this!! It sounds just like something in between the classics and adventure, like a game plucked out of time from the mid-90’s! If the quality keeps this consistency, it may become my favorite Sonic Soundtrack.
Hmm, we did hear this in the demo, and i think gamexplain waited on the level select so that somebody could rip it, also the youtube video is not posted by Tee Lopes. (he tweeted it out though) So no this is not new, and no tee lopes isn’t uploading OST.
Uh, this music is from the demo, ripped from gamexplain’s video, and Tee Lopes hasn’t been uploading OST and didn’t upload the video (He posted it on twitter, though)
Is it just me or are there numbers and letters in the Sonic of Sonic Mania? Maybe it is more clues?
That’s because the logo is transparent and over the HUD.
A full on map like Lost World or a list-like map like in Sonic 4 (is that what you meant, cause that was still technically a map) would be awesome either way, though a standard level select menu would be just as decent. I think if you’re going to go for the whole “what if 2D Sonic continued on the 32X/Saturn” thing, you’d be best off going with an actual map to show off the graphics, you just know Sega would have tried to pull something like that off, the whole point of higher graphics back then was to show off what you could do with them.
In any case, at least he made a good track that can fit well with whatever means of level select they end up with.
I think a better “list” example would be the Sonic 3&k level select or the Taxman version of Sonic CD’s level select.
I really like the music in this game so far and how much it actually fits Sonic despite being original mostly. I do find it interesting that the music styles seems to be more like between 1995 and 2000 then the actual genesis classic games.
well, thats probably because they want to fit the game in the saturn era. it’s basically the time window you described there.
I’d say it’s a style that has barely been explored, you can find plenty of original Genesis Sonic style music out there but ones that evoke Sonic CD and 3D Blast Saturn are pretty rare though they do exist like in Before/After the Sequel.
What both of you said is kinda what I was thinking too. I don’t mind. I like it.
I wonder if the Panic Puppet notes are intentional?
the music sounds catchy it will be better if sonic mania will fit on the 3DS so everyone will play it.
Yes because PC, PS4 and Xbone are niche platforms right? Nintendo and that worthless deal screwed us out of getting Sonic 1&2 remastered on consoles and PC so I’m not going to lose sleep over the favor being repaid in a way.
well, we was so close on getting those 2 games as a remaster for nintendo consoles. also, ity will be better if Sonic Mania being Ported to the 3DS system, so that way, many people in the world can get a chance to play the game. the PC XB1 and PS4 platforms are ok and great. but some people consider the game to have a 3DS port.
If you want the game to be played by EVERYONE, it’d make more sense to release it on mobile devices, especially considering how the retro engine works flawlessly on that platform, as evident from Sonic CD along with the Sonic 1 and 2 remake.
I’m not against a 3DS port, but has Taxman ever mentioned if his engine could work there? I’m assuming yes, but I don’t think I’ve seen a working prototype there.
Many people in the world already will have the chance to play the game when Steam, PS4 and Xbone have a combined install base somewhere around 180 million,
That idiotic deal prevented them from doing anything at that point on any console that wasn’t LW, Oylmpics and Rol on Wii U, if putting them on Wii U during that period was a viable solution it would have been done but it wasn’t.
I don’t have a PS4/XBone yet, mainly because I honestly think most games currently on it are boring. Only Tekken 7, JJBA Eyes of Heaven, Sonic 2017, and Xenoverse 2 really grab me, and those are either not out yet or already have a PS3 version in JJBA’s case yet they only localized the PS4 version for some reason.
SFV’s fucked itself over that I’m not bothering in the slightest till a HUGE price drop, so that lust leaves about all these indie games that I really don’t care about.
You can just play it on Steam though, this game doesn’t really seems to require a very powerful computer to run properly, and that’s coming from a 3DS owner but you don’t see me whining 🙂
I hope its Sonic3&K style where you can access the level via your save game once you open it,
Also would love an actual level select in game that is a cheat such as a key combination on the title screen or playing music tracks like sonic 2.
3DS or Mobile, I don’t mind, as long as I get to play it on the go as well. I need at least 2 copies of this game. One to play on a Big screen and one to take with me whenever I go.
Awesome song! I Can’t wait for this game! I need a real Saturn-esque 2D Sonic experience. Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD were the closest thing to that.
This song SERIOUSLY reminds me of Sonic Jam’s credits theme. They’re going all-in on the Saturn “era” vibe and I LOVE IT!
It’s beautiful :’D
