Movie Sonic’s Design to be Revised
You always wonder what leads to these kinds of decisions. There’s always theories about Hollywood arrogance, studio meddling, or how focus groups poison movies. Even in the face of all of that, the way Sonic looked in Tuesday’s trailer was still baffling.
Operative word being “was”. According to Jeff Fowler, director of Sonic the Hedgehog, the response has been a wake up call: They’re going back to the drawing board on Sonic’s design.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast

Paramount seems to have high hopes for Sonic the Hedgehog. Last year, Paramount chairman Jim Gianopulos specifically mentioned Sonic by name in a Deadline interview with Fast & The Furious producer Neal H. Moritz as something he hoped would show the studio was willing to take risks in the name of creative originality.
A move like this implies Paramount probably doesn’t want Sonic to become stillborn before the film even has a chance to reach theaters.
Needless to say, things just got interesting.
