Ken Penders to Attend SDCC; Considering Archie Panel Appearance
Ken Penders is not done making bold moves in the face of intense community contempt for him and his work. On his website Saturday, the former Sonic comic writer announced on his website he will at least be walking the halls of this year’s San Diego Comic Con, which begins with a preview event Wednesday and continues until Sunday.
“Originally I had not planned on attending this year, but events conspired to change that, and so I will be walking the halls and hanging out from Wednesday July 17 through Sunday July 22 at the San Diego Comic-Con,” Penders said.
For the moment, Penders will also be introducing a panel for friend Elliot S. Maggin. Maggin, you may remember, submitted an affidavit in support of Penders’s side of the lawsuit Archie Comics filed and recently settled. Penders also entertained the idea of showing up at Sunday’s Sonic and Mega Man panel that Archie is planning for SDCC. On his message board, he affirmed it was not set in stone, and explained the rationale behind the possibility.
“Notice I was non-committal on showing up at any Archie panel. And if I do, it’s certainly with an intent to hear what they have to say,” Penders said. “There will definitely be nothing adversarial as far as I’m concerned. As I am making myself available to fans who want to contact me, chances are I’ll run into some distraught fan either before or after any Archie panel, in which case I will politely listen to what they have to say, apologize for any actions on my part that may have upset and explain what happened was unavoidable to a certain extent.”
This certainly could make for a tense environment if not for fans attending the convention in whole, then certainly those looking forward to the Archie panel next week. Our special correspondent from affiliate SonicRadio.net, Shayne Edwards, will be at SDCC on Sunday and will bring us anything that may happen from this, the panel itself, and anything else related to SDCC and the Sega Arcade event this week.
