First Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed 3DS details surfaces
There has been quite a drought of information about Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed portable editions. We recently asked Aaron Webber about them at NYCC’12, to no avail.
But Seems like Pocket Gamer has been more lucky than us.
In a preview posted Thursday, they share the very first details we are getting about these two versions of the game. Their preview is mostly focused on Nintendo 3DS version, but we also got a little tidbit of info regarding PS Vita one.
Regarding PS Vita version, Pocket Gamer stated on that it’s pretty much the same as the desktop consoles version, except for adaptation on it unique capabilities like touch screen support or tilt controls.
But Nintendo 3DS one ain’t that lucky. Gareth Wilson, from Sumo Digital, stated that they are making this version simpler than it’s desktop consoles counterpart. Not only because of obvious technical differences, but because of the console main public differences.
“We got some children to come in and play [a level in which] you had to blow a tank up and dodge missiles and they didn’t really get that,” says Wilson. “We also had a mode where you had to dodge between lots of traffic and they kept getting run over really badly.”
He also states that they are using a different engine, more optimised to the platform capabilities,a and that some game modes will be absent from this version, like Traffic Attack mode, but others like World Tour mode and online multiplayer is present and pretty much the same in all platforms. The absent game modes will be replaced with simpler, straight forward missions like “beat people’s lap times” or “beat a certain character”.
Last, but not least, Pocket Gamer stated that the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS versions will be released on November 16th, in Europe. Sega of America recently announced that those version got delayed until December so, might this mean that Europeans might be able to play it sooner than Americans? Or did Pocket Gamer just mixed dates up?
We will keep you informed.
……………..FUCK.
Well, I got a Vita now, so I’ll get that version.
I understand having to make the 3DS version les spectacular because of its capabilities, but still, why remove things like game modes just because it was hard for kids who tested it out?
^ More importantly, why EVEN HAVE KIDS test out Racing Transformed, a SKILL-BASED game!
I don’t care really. The Vita version sounds un-interesting, as it’s practically a console “clone”. The 3DS version, as long as it plays as good as MK7, I’m good!
… That really, really sucks. I am so angry right now. Also, those must’ve been the absolute most stupid kids ever and/or three years old.
So basically the 3DS version is like the DS stripped-down version of the original. 🙁
Look, did we really even want a 3DS version in the first place? Why not just get the console version? I personally like the difference between 3DS and consoles because that means that I would get a different experience on both games.
@Sonicriders02
…Please, tell me you’re fucking joking…
@SonicRiders- That’s why I’m getting the 3DS version; it’s distinctly different from its console counters, in a good way.
Leave it to SEGA to suddenly just gut features because of some random testing.
I’m not saying don’t think of the kids but ffs.
3DS is weak as shit anyway, why even bother picking up that version if you’re not a kid? Just get the Vita version and be happy. You’ve gotta realise the main target audience for each system. If it’s a nintendo first party title or for children, it goes to the Nintendo handheld because that’s what sells it the best on it. Vita owners can handle what the full game has to offer. They must be really hardpressed for time to exclude content on 3DS.
@DoctorEggman- The vita is a mini PS3 which makes it heck a boring. The 3DS is distanced really well enough that you can have a different gameplay experience.
I’m assuming you haven’t played MK7? Oh, too busy playing Little Shit Planet Racing, I see.
So what? These kids never played such a game.. They do get progressivly better.
@DoctorEggman: I woul have typed up an angry rant, but you have proven yourself so utterly stupid and ignorant that I can quite safely say that the effort would be horrendously wasted on such as you
Correction, would, not woul, sorry.
What a silly design philosophy. If a game is too hard for some kids let it be hard. They’ll get better at it. Cutting features out of a game because a couple kids weren’t good at it the first time they played it is ridiculous. We all grew up playing games that were too hard for us. Growing up in the 8-bit era you were lucky to even get to the third level in some games and that’s what kept us playing. Respect your audience.
It doesn’t sound like a fair test considering they didn’t see if the kids did any better on the home consoles. Kids play all of the other systems it’s released on (including the PC), so I don’t really understand the point of that anyway.
By the way, kids can be some of the most dangerously scarily skilled players because they can invest more time into playing video games than anyone else. Does anyone remember that 8-year-old boy who made it into Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s EVO quarterfinals?
Heck, does anybody remember Battlebots? A kid’s parents bought a finished bot off the Internet, and he also made it to the quarterfinals with this bot when the competitions were big enough to be televised. No technical modifications were made to it, and he only lost because, unlike the other seven quarterfinalists, it was never repaired between rounds. When asked how he managed to get that far, his explanation was “Nintendo.”
Wow there are still people here who are underestimating the 3DS. You guys really need to find your information about it before you start looking down it.
Looks it’s gonna have to be PS3 version only, was hoping the 3DS version would be like Vita/Consoles like how SAR wii was the same as PS360
@Ricardo
you really are an Omega fan boy, Vita being a mini PS3 means it can have games at a higher quality standard, the fact that the Vita version alone will be the same as the others goes to show something, unlike the 3DS with loads of technical difficulties during Development.
You thing the 3D alone makes the 3DS unique, its a gimmick and doesn’t add much value to the games you play.
Stop being a fucking fanboy, GEEZ
^ Not sure if sarcasm.
I still want more detail on the PC version, especially if Heavy from TF2 will be in it as a guest character.
@DoctorEggman
Nice to see my tip get posted. Still getting the 3DS version because it’s all I can have.
Wow, so many butthurt fans. You guys do realise I own and thoroughly enjoy my 3DS right? Had it since launch. Not meaning to offend, I’m just saying there’s nothing to worry about if you get a stripped down kid-friendly experience on 3DS when you can just get it for Vita if you want a handheld version bad enough. I also enjoy my Vita very much, it’s an incredibly fun portable game system and offers everything I could want from a handheld system aside from some Nintendo licensed content. Being closER to ps3 in terms of power isn’t a bad thing. I find it quite nice to play a system that performs and plays like a modern handheld should. Performance-wise, 3DS felt like a dinosaur right out of the box for me, but I do love myself some starfox and mario (oh and sonic) on that thing, among other nice games on there. (Even if it did take ages for it to get anything worth spending $40 on lol)
They’re doing THAT again? Oh well, as long as the Miis still get to drive, and the tracks stay the same, I’m good. I really want the 3DS version, but do I really have to wait until December? Also, LOOK OUT, IT’S DocterEggman! Nic Speed, Luke Spears, Rena Bo Dash, let’s get him! 😉
