Fantasy Zone, Shinobi next SEGA AGES Western Releases on Switch
Western players on Nintendo Switch have two more quality remasters on the way from Sega and M2.
A press release from Sega released Thursday reveals that Shinobi and Fantasy Zone will both be released on the system as part of the Sega Ages series later this month, on January 23rd.
The release states that, as has been the case for all other previous Ages remasters, fans are in for a number of enhancements:
The challenging side-scrolling action title Shinobi strikes back with an AGES mode that gives a white-robed Musashi extra health and damage, and an added Melee button that lets you dispatch enemies up close and personal. And if the hordes of ZEED are proving too much of a test, difficulty and stage select options have been implemented, along with a reverse time feature.Long before Sonic, there was an adorable sentient ship named Opa-Opa, the star of SEGA AGES Fantasy Zone! This update to the vibrant arcade hit includes a helpful Coin Stock assist feature for those not as well versed in shooters, a Time Attack mode perfect for speedrunners, extra bosses, and even the option to play as Opa-Opa’s brother, Upa-Upa!You can also expect the usual SEGA AGES accouterments such as replays, online leaderboards, and a host of other options to make these the definitive versions you can play on the go!
The original Shinobi was released to arcades in 1987, while Fantasy Zone‘s first act was in 1985.
Meanwhile, fans wait for word on when Sonic 2, like among the last of the Sega Ages Switch releases, will be formally announced for the lineup, and what special features it will have.
And….. Waiting for Sonic 2 and maybe cut content…
I checked Wikipedia, and there are still five announced games that have yet to be released, including Sonic 2. I’m think they’ll release those during 2020 and then they’ll announce a new set which will include Sega Saturn games.
