E3 2000: New NFL, NBA2K1 Details
Here is some info on Sega Sports’ NBA and NFL 2K1 from SegaWeb:
First, the announcing seems to be dramatically improved, especially in NBA2K1. It is no longer intrusive and seems to flow much more quickly, staying on-top of the action more so than last year’s version. Second, the graphics themselves seem improved. Though polygons counts may or may not be higher, the frames of animation seem to have increased. No longer will your forward or quarterback seem to switch directions 180 degrees in about one frame. In NBA2K1, for example, new animations for shot blocks are included and tremendously increase the fun you can have playing defense. In NFL2K1 you can control a player in the cut scenes following plays.
Both titles have one important new featue: smart VMU usage. This allows you to save only what you need. No longer will you need to reserve an entire VMU for one sports game.
NFL2K1 has the following enhancements: Vastly improved running game as promised, with enhanced blocking and explosive running. Full game and season stats as well as a franchise mode to watch players develop over multiple seasons. New commentary and the ability to outfit your players in classic/historical uniforms. Better pass coverage, including true bump-and-run coverage.
NBA2K1 has the following improvements:
- Franchise mode, as seen in NFL2K1
- Create custom leagues and schedules with the League Builder
- Network play allows up to 4-on-4 action (it’s 4am but we can still count: that’s 8)
- Improved defensive system is easier and more fun to play
- Collision detection vastly improved – no longer will you stop on a dime for barely touching hips.
- Added moves – passing out of layups and dunks, spin moves, and more.
