E3 2000: Ecco the Dolphin Impressions
Sega Otaku played the game, here is what Joe Landsverk thinks:
Although I was playing Ecco: Tides of Time for nearly fifteen minutes, I can’t say that I really accomplished a damn thing with it. While there were plenty of objectives, I spent all my time making Ecco swim to the surface as fast as he could, and making him do flips, jump rocks, all kinds of stuff. Then I remembered that’s what I always did with my Genesis Ecco as well!
Anyway, Ecco looks great. The underwater environments are simply breathtaking, and are filled with all sorts of exotic wildlife. Everywhere you turn, you see schools of fish swimming, whales slowly scaling the ocean floor, and underwater flora shining in the murky depths.
As for how it sounds, I’m really not sure yet, as there was a Space Channel 5 show going on about ten feet away from where I was standing. I did hear a little bit of Ecco’s sonar, and it sounds like the developers actually took the time to research dolphin sounds.
We’ll have more as it develops.
