DHX Acquires Cookie Jar Entertainment

We wanted to pass along word that Cookie Jar Entertainment has been acquired by Canadian media company DHX Media.  The announcement was made in a press release by DHX on Monday.

Cookie Jar owns the rights to numerous Sonic titles, including the original Sonic the Hedgehog animated series known endearingly by fans as SatAM, the syndicated Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic Underground.

DHX acquired Cookie Jar for a total of $111 million, including $5 million in cash and the assumption of $66 million in debt.  With the takeover, DHX now claims to have the world’s largest independent library of children’s TV programming, in all totaling 8,550 half hour episodes or nearly half a year’s worth of programming nonstop.
