Could San Diego Follow Indianapolis’s Lead Restricting Violent Games?
From Sega X:
Replay Magazine is reporting that San Diego Councilman Juan Vargas is jumping onto the game censorship bandwagon and has proposed a city ordinance that would restrict minors from having access to games which may be considered unsuitable due to violence and sexual content.
Much like the law passed in Indiana, the games would have to be marked and moved to a separate location in the arcade, and at least 10 feet away from nonviolent games. So, basically the big crowd of machines on one side of the arcade will be off-limits to minors and the one or two standing alone will be accessible.
“Arcades are becoming drive-thrus that serve violence to the impressionable minds of our children,” says Vargas. “For 50 cents, our youth are virtually gunning down children, dismembering human-like contenders and pitting thong-clad female warriors against each other.”
Although his comment give me pure bliss thinking about those thong-clad female warriors, many arcade operators and game developers believe that these laws border on their First Amendment rights.
