Christian Whitehead Founds New Game Studio
There’s a new studio in town. Christian “Taxman” Whitehead, known for his remakes of several classic Sonic games and contributions to Sonic Mania, has founded a new game studio called Evening Star, where he will serve as creative director and lead engine architect. The organization’s website describes it as a “boutique” studio, built to design “fresh, fun games which will stand the test of time” in an environment where “members are given a voice and latitude to impact games in unique ways.” The studio also touts its proprietary technology known as the Star Engine, which appears to be the most recent iteration of Taxman’s well-known Retro Engine; it is not yet known what engine upgrades were made to inspire the change in name.
Joining Whitehead at Evening Star are several additional Mania alumni, most in leadership roles: Tom Fry as art director, Hunter Bridges as technical and audio director, and Brad Flick as design director, just to name a few. Veteran industry pro Dave Padilla serves as producer and CEO. The studio has not yet announced any upcoming projects, but you can follow Evening Star on Twitter and visit its website to stay up-to-date with its happenings.
