Arcane Kids Releases “Sonic Dreams Collection”

When Sonic news and information dry up, people have time on their hands. When people have time on their hands, they get bored. When they get bored, they do things to fill that time. And sometimes, when people do things to fill that time, we get results like this.

Sonic Dreams Collection is a playable parody by Arcane Kids, a legitimate group of developers based in Los Angeles. It’s available for both PC and Mac if you enter the password “grandpa”. We’re trying to figure out if they did this on their own or with Sega’s blessing. Given some of the surreal adult content embedded within, our bet’s on the former, but given the “zero fucks given” attitude taken by Aaron Webber when he assumed control of the Sonic Twitter earlier this year, all bets are off.

The collection, billed as a set of prototypes developed before Sonic Adventure game to fruition on the Dreamcast (spoiler: they’re not), include the rather meta “original character” creator Make my Sonic, all the way up to the Oculus Rift supported My Roommate Sonic where–and I’m not kidding about this – you flirt and try to make out with Sonic.

We’ll let the video play-through from Game Grumps do the rest of the talking, because at this point, I literally cannot even. I need a drink.

The Boom TV show just became something that was relevant enough to stimulate most of the internet community with meme material apart from already established Sonic fans. Though to be fair I think that’s how Cartoon Network is making most of their shows, for the sake of free advertising through fan-made memes, lol. XD

  7. I agree with Jan Jan. Stuff like this is 100% crap and is in part very disrespectful to the character and the developers thereof. The people who decided to make this are just not right.

    1. Oh relax, it’s harmless (bizarre) fun. A bit of absurdist humor. I’m not saying ya gotta like it, but disrespectful? C’mon. I agree that whoever made this isn’t right though, lol.

    2. Stop taking Sonic so seriously, goodness. It’s a freaking anthropomorphic hedgehog that runs fast, not exactly something to get bent out of shape about because someone made a stupid parody game.

        2. Sonic’s mocked not without reason, however. The series is a fucking joke, and Sega hasn’t been actively trying hard enough to fix their franchise’s image, and keep insisting on taking the ineffective easy way out by rushing out games, poorly managing their game developers and keeping track of the quality of their products. It shows that not even Sega has any respect for Sonic, let alone themselves, and they have had no shame over it, acting like nothing was wrong until the new CEO recently spoke out and issued an apology for betraying their fans. There’s a lot of work to be done to fix this franchise’s poor reputation, and it starts with making quality games with lots of time, love and effort put into them.

I don’t think it’s that I’m taking Sonic so seriously, I think it’s that I’m taking him so personally. Don’t go thinking I’m all loopy though. What is in this… mess… is not “humour” it is a boatload of inappropriate actions, disrespectful wit, and misleading principles. How can you even call this a game sir?

        1. How can you call Uncle Grandpa a cartoon show? Different things for different people my friend, some-actually, A LOT of people find surreal stuff like this hilarious. At varying degrees mind you, and nobody is saying that certain parts aren’t being taken too far (I personally could have done WITHOUT the vore section, thank you Arcane Kids…), but the whole joke is that this is an exaggerated parody of the, ahem, “more taboo” aspects of the fan base. And a lot of the humor is just from the content itself, nothing really feels like it’s making fun of the credibility of the series to me. Well, apart from marketing it as “games made by Sega before Sonic Adventure”, which clearly it wasn’t and it’s meant to be a joke, but apparently some people are taking it a bit too seriously.

  8. I only have two questions, first: What? Second: The fuck? This was so disturbing, lol. I gotta say though, I appreciate that “My Roommate Sonic”, or really any of it, didn’t go Sonic.exe like I felt like it was going to. Now it’s it’s own original brand of bizarre! XD

  9. I won’t even watch it. I won’t even dare. My bets are that this is a fangame, not created with SEGA’s blessing…if SEGA did let Arcane Kids make such a game, I don’t think SEGA expected this outcome in the slightest.
    Sonic is a kid friendly franchise. And I’d like to keep thinking of it that way. But considering we have revealing characters like Rouge and (used to be) Sally… (Some spoilers starting here.) SEGA didn’t hesitate to brutally murder Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). They robotisized Tails in Sonic Lost World as well.
    All of the above…can’t POSSIBLY be from a kid friendly franchise though, can it?
    I will never ever ever consider this an official game nonetheless. If it is official, I’ll probably have a heart attack.

      Yeah, how dare we have SEGA make things that keep us interested. Everything should be sunshine and rainbows in Sonic’s world!
      “Kid-friendly” seems to me like just an excuse. If that’s the case then Steven Universe must be for 18+ considering how much goes on in there. (many characters “dying”, lesbian couple, and sooo much more) And don’t get me STARTED on the apeshit antics of TTGo! .
      Hell, the Dragon Ball series has had numerous perv moments and deaths and how many people watch/read that and are of a young audience?

        1. This is a parody though, made by a few guys who really are just wanting to poke fun at Sonic, not made by SEGA themselfs.
          I just still found it stupid how everyone gets antsy over characters like Sally and Rouge because OH NO, A WOMAN-LIKE FIGURE!
          Also, “brutally murder” when it comes to Sonic’s death in 06? Please, they didn’t even add a hole in his chest. Even Dragon Ball Z Budokai had a hole thru both Radtiz and Goku’s chests when they died. And I can think of a much more brutal way to kill a character. *looks over at Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure*

  12. There’s nothing wrong with harmless jokes, but really? I’m sick of all this Sonic circlejerking and shit, it’s honestly just disrespectful at this point, to see one of my favorite childhood characters being shoved so low.

    2. Well the game more or less is a jab at the Sonic fandom rather than at Sega and the Sonic franchise; particularly the infamous weird, dark side of the fandom. It’s understandable if some folks would feel insulted, but at the same time, the Sonic series is kind of an easy target to poke fun at due to the inconsistent quality of the games. Try to take it with a grain of salt, because you’ll find yourself fighting an uphill battle with the gaming community at large.
