Hands-On: Kingston HyperX
There’s lots of game-centric companies. From mouse pads and headsets to hard drives and beyond, dozens of different organizations want to provide the product that powers your play. One of those companies is Kingston, known for their HyperX-branded gaming products among other creations, and we had the opportunity to explore their lineup of new products for 2015. Here’s what they had in store for us.
Two of the company’s products catered to needs that every PC gamer has: lots of RAM, and a nice mouse pad. Their brand-new Predator DDR4 RAM sticks promise increased capacity, lower power consumption, and the faster speeds you’d expect from a next-generation RAM technology. Their FURY mouse pads felt sturdy and soft to the touch; as the pads get larger in size, they also become slightly thicker and more padded. Also on display was their paper-thin Skyn line of mouse pads; they come with an adhesive layer that attaches itself to your desk, and they’re so thin that there’s basically no drop-off when you move your mouse off of them.

That said, the most impressive product in their lineup was definitely the Cloud II Gaming Headset. An incremental improvement on the original Cloud headset, this new iteration features a USB audio control box that gives you access to a few key actions and features, such as changing the volume and adjusting the surround sound. Their sound quality was excellent; in an added bonus, they contoured to my head very nicely, and the generous padding make them incredibly comfortable. I know it might sound like I’m selling out or just shilling for them, but I assure you that’s not the case; I was genuinely impressed by how good the headset was.
As I said before, though, there are dozens of gaming companies that make quality products like these. What sets Kingston apart from the rest? One of the company reps I spoke with pointed to the company’s desire to really connect with gamers and cater to their needs as much as possible. She noted that Kingston Technology has been in the business since 1987, and despite their relative success and popularity in other tech sectors, they go to great lengths to ensure that their HyperX products are the best they can be.
All of Kingston’s aforementioned HyperX products are available today.
Note: TSSZ News received a complimentary 32GB flash drive during our tour of Kingston’s product lineup, and it will receive a Cloud II headset in the future. More information about our disclosure policies can be found on our Policies page.
