PSO Clogging SegaNet Servers
It’s not as bad as you think…from Hawkmoon of the DC Tech Pages:
I was on the NFL2K1 servers on Sept. 7th the day SegaNet launched and NFL2K1 was released. I still play the game to this day on SegaNet. I was also on-line the day Speed Devils, POD, NBA2K1 and Quake came out. Had a great time and saw some familiar faces on the net.
HOWEVER, I have never encountered anything like what I did last night when PSO was released. The amount of users on-line last night was unbelievable. The most amount of users I have ever seen in NFL2K1 (the most popular DC on-line game) was about 1,200-1,800 users in total. I don’t think that it ever had more than 2,500 at any one time. The first few weeks it was a constant 1,000+ users on at almost any given time. Pretty good for the first console on-line game.
Last night at around 6:00 PM PST, I added up a total of about 10,000-12,000 users on-line at the same time. I looked at it again about 12:00 mid-night and it was only down to about 7,000 users. The Japan Server had roughly 3-4,000 users alone.
Good news for SegaNet, at least…this game could give the service a much needed oomph.
