We came across a pretty neat proof-of-concept this morning: A reimagining of the original Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, with some Sonic attitude.
It’s the work of Sightseeker, and it’s very likely you may have seen it too. Since its release yesterday, the clip below has been viewed over 120,000 times, as of the time of this article’s publication.
What you may not know is the nuts and bolts may be there for something more significant than just an animation, at least according to the author.
In a previous Tweet from last week, Sightseeker referred to the project as “The Spin-off Game that will never be thanks to copyright,” referring to Nintendo’s hardline stance against fan works that resemble official releases.
But there clearly is an appetite to see more of this Paper Sonic reimagining. Sightseeker has not yet indicating what more, if any of it may be on the way. We’ll continue to monitor it.
