Fan Fridays: Robby Duguay
So I actually meant to post this one prior to Christmas, but even the best-laid plans go awry. If you’re willing to keep your holiday spirit going for a little bit longer, you might like this week’s feature. Every year, Toronto-based musician Robby Duguay releases another entry in his 12GB of Christmas series, which reimagines classic holiday songs with the help of some distinctive sounds from retro game consoles. His albums use tones from many old consoles and games, from Star Fox and Super Mario 64 to the NES and beyond, but this year’s collection has a track of particular interest to us: a version of Handel’s Messiah built exactly as you’d hear it in Sonic 2.
You can hear that song as track 6 in the playlist below, and we’ve included the entire album in case you wanted to explore it more thoroughly. If you’re interested, you can purchase this volume of 12GB of Christmas here, and you can explore more of Robby Duguay’s game-inspired music at his BandCamp page here. We thank Robby for bringing his work to our attention.
As always, if you have a fan project you want the world to know about, send as a link at fansonfriday@tssznews.com. Happy new year from all of us at TSSZ!
