I’m a big fan of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg; it’s one of THOSE games that SEGA produced. Both beautiful and deceptively original that despite promise and popularity as time progressed simply didn’t do the numbers to make it a success.
Billy Hatcher was supposed to be entirely about Joy according to Yuji Naka who was Producer of the title. Its game engine was even an evolution of that employed by Sonic Adventure 2“.
What we have here then is a piece of early footage from Billy Hatcher taken some time before release, looking at it, this is possibly from an internal SEGA or Nintendo reel. The gameplay shown appears to be lacking a lot of polish, as a result looking jagged and dull whilst some levels can be seen to be missing textures altogether.
The most notable aspect though is actually the background music which is s a demo version of G.I.A.N.T.E.G.G. missing the children’s chorus. You can view the short clip below.
